The above picture illustrates the dialysis process. During dialysis, blood is extracted from the body through the red tube, filtered through the dialysis machine to remove metabolic impurities, and then reintroduced into the body through the blue tube. This process is repeated for 4 hours, during which the patient must remain immobile in bed. The procedure is performed 3 times a week, resulting in 12 sessions per month, with each session lasting 4 hours, totaling 48 hours per month. For those unaffected, this blood purification process occurs automatically 36 times daily, with no effort required from the kidneys, even during physical activity. Appreciate your health and take good care of your kidneys. To promote kidney health, reduce your intake of caffeine, paracetamol, alcohol, salt, and sugar. Conversely, increase your sleep, exercise, sun exposure, water intake, and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. Remember, your health is your wealth. Most importantly, acknowledge the vital role of the kidneys, which perform dialysis automatically, without any conscious effort or cost

Did you know that bad relationships can damage your kidneys?

Bad relationships and chronic stress associated with them can indeed have negative impacts on overall health, including kidney function. Here’s how the relationship dynamics can affect the kidneys:

1 Stress and Cortisol Levels
Increased stress: Poor relationships often lead to increased emotional stress. This stress can elevate cortisol levels, a hormone that, when chronically elevated, can contribute to various health issues.
Impact on Kidneys: High cortisol levels can lead to hypertension (high blood pressure), which is a major risk factor for kidney disease. Persistent high blood pressure can damage blood vessels in the kidneys, affecting their ability to filter waste from the blood effectively.

2 Inflammation
Chronic Inflammation: Stressful relationships may initiate a state of chronic inflammation in the body. Inflammation can exacerbate various health conditions, including those affecting the kidneys.
Kidney Damage: Inflammation can contribute to the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and can worsen the overall function of the kidneys.

3. Lifestyle Factors
Poor Habits: Individuals in unhealthy relationships may cope with stress through unhealthy behaviors such as overeating, smoking, or increased alcohol consumption. These habits can have direct negative effects on kidney health.
Neglect of Health: When a person is emotionally drained, they may neglect regular medical check-ups, healthy eating, hydration, and exercise, which are essential for maintaining kidney function.

4. Sleep Disturbances
Quality of Sleep: Emotional stress from bad relationships can lead to poor sleep quality or insomnia. Sleep is critical for overall health and for kidney repair and function.
Kidney Function: Lack of restorative sleep can exacerbate health problems, including those related to kidney function.

5 Mental Health
Depression and Anxiety:** Stressful relationships may contribute to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. These conditions have been linked to adverse kidney health.
Physiological Impact: Mental health struggles can lead to physical symptoms and stress, further impacting kidney function.

6 Hormonal Imbalances
Adrenal Health: Chronic stress from a poor relationship can lead to dysfunction in the adrenal glands, which may impact hormonal balance and subsequently affect blood pressure and kidney health.

Conclusion
While the direct link between bad relationships and kidney health may not always be clear-cut, the indirect effects of stress, inflammation, lifestyle changes, and overall wellbeing certainly contribute to poorer kidney function over time. Addressing relationship challenges and fostering healthier emotional connections can mitigate some of these risks, ultimately benefiting overall health, including that of the kidneys. If you're experiencing chronic stress from a relationship, it may be beneficial to seek support from a mental health professional.

Abdominal perforation.

A must read.

Abdominal perforation refers to a hole that develops in the wall of a structure within the abdominal cavity, allowing its contents to leak into the abdominal space. This can lead to serious complications and is often considered a medical emergency.

Causes:
Abdominal perforation can arise from various conditions, including:

1. Peptic Ulcer Disease: A common cause where ulcers in the stomach or the first part of the small intestine erode through the wall.
2. Trauma: Blunt or penetrating trauma (e.g., stab wounds, car accidents) can create perforations.
3. Appendicitis: An inflamed appendix can rupture, causing a perforation.
4. Diverticulitis: Inflammation or infection of diverticula in the colon can lead to perforation.
5. Bowel Obstruction: A blockage can increase pressure and lead to perforation.
6. Infections: Certain infections can weaken intestinal walls, leading to perforation (e.g., tuberculosis, typhoid).
7. Cancer: Tumors in the gastrointestinal tract can create weak spots that perforate.
8. Foreign Bodies: Swallowed objects or devices can cause perforation.
9. Iatrogenic Causes: Surgical procedures or diagnostic tests that inadvertently cause perforation.

Complications:
Complications from an abdominal perforation can be severe and include:

1. Peritonitis: The leakage of intestinal contents into the abdominal cavity can lead to inflammation of the peritoneum, a serious and life-threatening infection.

2. Sepsis: The infection can spread into the bloodstream, leading to a systemic inflammatory response that could result in organ failure.

3.Abscess Formation: Collections of pus can develop in the abdominal cavity, which may require drainage.

4. Shock: Severe infection and fluid loss can lead to shock, characterized by decreased blood pressure and organ perfusion.

5. Fistula Formation: Abnormal connections may develop between organs, such as between the bowel and bladder or between two segments of the bowel.

6. Death: If not treated promptly, abdominal perforation can be fatal.

Symptoms:
Symptoms of abdominal perforation can include:

- Sudden and severe abdominal pain
- Nausea and vomiting
- Fever and chills
- Rapid heart rate
- Tenderness in the abdomen
- Signs of shock (e.g., pale skin, confusion)

Diagnosis and Management:
Diagnosis typically involves physical examination, imaging studies (like X-rays or CT scans), and laboratory tests. Treatment usually requires surgical intervention to repair the perforation, remove damaged tissue, and treat any underlying causes. Antibiotics are often administered to address infection.

When kidney function declines, transplantation or dialysis are the only viable options. However, there are measures that can be taken to avoid reaching this stage. Drinking 75cl of bottled water first thing in the morning, fasting on a weekly basis, refraining from alcohol and smoking, and curbing intake of added sugars, red meat, and beverages can help maintain kidney health.

CONDOMS ARE GREAT - But they are not magic

They help lower the risk of many infections during s*x, but they don’t protect you from everything.

Some infections can still spread through your skin, fluids, or sores outside the area a condom covers.

Below 👇🏾 some infections you may still catch even when using condoms correctly

1. HPV (Human Papillomavirus)

This is one of the most common STIs in the world. It spreads through skin contact, not just fluids.

Even if you use a condom, HPV can pass from skin around the ge****ls, thighs, or a**s.

Some types cause ge***al warts, while others can lead to cancer of the cervix, a**s, throat, or p***s.

One scary reality is that most people don’t even know they have it.

2. Herpes (HSV-1 and HSV-2)

You can get herpes from kissing or touching, and during oral, va**nal, or a**l s*x.

The virus spreads even when there are no visible blisters. It lives in the skin and can pass from places the condom doesn’t cover, like the base of the p***s, v***a, or buttocks.

Once it enters your body, it becomes family i.e, it stays for life and can come back from time to time

3. Syphilis starts with a painless sore, often on the p***s, va**na, mouth, or a**s.

This sore is full of bacteria and can spread the infection with just skin contact.

Condoms may not fully cover the sore, especially if it’s in an area like the sc***um or inner thigh.

If left untreated, syphilis can damage your brain, heart, and nerves over time

4. Scabies and P***c Lice ("crabs")

These are tiny parasites that live on your skin or hair. Scabies burrow into the skin and cause intense itching.

P***c lice attach to hair around the ge****ls and feed on blood.

They spread through close skin contact during s*x, not through body fluids.

5. Hepatitis B and C

These viruses attack the liver and are found in blood and other body fluids.

They can spread through s*x, especially a**l s*x, or s*x involving bleeding or sores.

Condoms lower the risk but don’t completely block it. You can get vaccinated against Hepatitis B, but not against Hepatitis C.
