Living with PCOS can be challenging, especially when it comes to managing your diet. You want to make healthy choices, but you also don't want to feel deprived of your indulgent foods.

You may think that you have to be perfect 100% of the time before you see results but it’s not so.

That's where the 80/20 rule comes in. It's an approach to eating that allows you to nourish your body with healthy, nutrient-dense foods while still satisfying your cravings. In this post, we'll dive into what the 80/20 rule is, how it can benefit women with PCOS, and how to incorporate it into your daily routine.

The idea behind the 80/20 rule is that you can still enjoy your favorite foods in moderation and maintain a healthy diet overall. By focusing on nutritious foods for the majority of your meals, you can ensure that your body gets the essential nutrients it needs to function properly.

The 80/20 rule is not a strict diet plan, but rather a flexible approach to healthy eating that allows for occasional indulgences without derailing your overall health goals.

Swipe to see how to apply this rule.

Bloating refers to the discomfort and swelling in the abdomen that some women with PCOS experience. It can be caused by several factors related to PCOS, including hormonal imbalances, insulin resistance, and digestive issues. Other factors are related to the food we eat which were mentioned in the slides.

In addition, some women with PCOS may also have digestive issues such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) or Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), which can also cause bloating.

It is important to note that not all women with PCOS will experience bloating, and bloating can also be caused by other factors unrelated to PCOS.

Do you experience this? How do you manage it?

In my previous post, we discussed inflammation and I said certain foods can worsen it.

I always say that you can eat anything, and I mean anything with PCOS but also it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to PCOS management.

If you can relate to the sneaky signs that may have inflammation, here are some foods that may worsen inflammation.

❗️Overconsumption of Omega-6 to Omega-3: Omega-6 fatty acids are pro-inflammatory, while Omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory. Our typical diet is high in Omega-6 fatty acids from sources such as vegetable oils (corn, soybean, sunflower, safflower) and processed foods, while being low in Omega-3 fatty acids.

❗️Highly Processed foods: Highly processed foods are often stripped of their nutrients during processing, leaving them with low nutritional value. They also contain additives, preservatives, and other chemicals that can trigger inflammation in some people.

❗️Added sugars : Added sugars are sugars that are added to foods and drinks during processing. They are not naturally occurring in the food or drink, but are added to enhance taste.

❗️ Processed meat: examples of processed meats include hot dogs, sausages, bacon, ham, and deli meats like salami. These products often contain high levels of salt, and other preservatives, which can have neg*tive health effects if consumed in excess.

❗️Trans fats: are a type of unsaturated fat that are produced through a process called hydrogenation, which adds hydrogen to liquid vegetable oils to make them more solid at room temperature. Common sources of trans fats include fried foods, margarine, and some processed foods.

Are you eating any of these? You don’t need to avoid them, you only need to drastically limit your intake.

Scrolling by on Twitter and came across an ignorant tweet asking why women have hair growing on their chin.

It is incredibly disheartening to see that in this day and age, there are still people who choose to shame and ridicule women for a completely natural aspect of their physical appearance caused by no fault of theirs.

Let me make one thing clear: the presence of facial hair on women affects their self-esteem. This is something they struggle with and many times, they give up on doing anything about it.

You have no idea how quickly the facial hair grows back even if they are tweezed or shaved them.

Your ignorant comments only serve to perpetuate outdated societal expectations that dictate what is considered "beautiful" or "acceptable" for women. By making fun of women with facial hair, you are essentially telling them that they are not good enough, that they do not belong, and that they need to change themselves in order to fit into your narrow definition of beauty.

Take a moment to reflect on your words and the impact they have on those around you. Your comments and statements are hurtful, and they can have serious and long-lasting consequences on a person's self-esteem and mental health.

Instead of making insensitive and hurtful comments, choose to support the women around you or don’t say anything at all.

They may forget what you said, they may forget what you did – but they will never forget how you made them feel.

Before you speak, think!

Inflammation is one of the root causes of PCOS. There are two types of inflammation, Acute Inflammation and Chronic inflammation. It’s acute when you have a swelling or redness around your joints or a cut. Your body is trying to heal itself by sending white blood cells to attack the affected area.

It’s chronic when the white blood cells begin to attack healthy organs. You may experience joint pains all over your body in addition to the sneaky symptoms mentioned in the slides.

Certain foods can worsen inflammation, so it's important for women with PCOS to be aware of which foods to avoid or limit .
