A Woman Who Earns Has a Voice!

As our International Women's Month campaign continues, we are highlighting a fundamental truth about our theme: Give to Gain.
A woman who earns has a voice. When we give women with disabilities access to real economic opportunities, they gain much more than just income—they gain vital influence, independence, and a stronger voice in both their homes and their communities.

Today, we are so proud to spotlight our Woman of the Moment, Queen Christopher, the dedicated Guzape Self-Help Group Leader right here in Abuja. Her leadership is a beautiful reminder of how economic empowerment creates ripple effects that uplift everyone.

Please join us in celebrating Queen and the profound impact of economic opportunity.

Inclusive Climate Action: No One Left Behind
Climate solutions must work for everyone especially women and persons with disabilities.

As part of our project, "ADVOCACY FOR THE INTEGRATION OF DISABILITY AND GENDER INCLUSION INTO NIGERIA’S CLIMATE EMERGENCY FRAMEWORK AND POLICIES," we continue to spotlight the importance of inclusive climate action.

The Message
Climate change is not gender-neutral, and it does not affect everyone equally. Women and persons with disabilities often face greater risks during emergencies due to barriers in access, communication, and mobility. As our graphic emphasizes: “ *No climate solution is complete without considering gender and disability* .”

Our International Women's Month campaign continues as we explore the profound impact of our theme: Give to Gain.

True empowerment means handing over the reins. When we give women with disabilities full control and ownership over their own progress, they gain the unshakeable confidence needed to lead, succeed, and inspire others.

Today, we are honored to spotlight our Woman of the Moment, Jamila Abdullahi, from the Karamajiji Self Help Group right here in Abuja! Her powerful voice and leadership remind us all that when women take ownership of their journeys, incredible transformations happen.

Growing Together, One Skill at a Time.

On Sunday, the AWWDI women of Bwari gathered at our Safe Space in Gaba for a day filled with sisterhood, learning, and big plans.

The atmosphere was full of energy as Madam Eucharia Anajekwu welcomed everyone and Sister Florence John opened the meeting with prayer. We didn't just talk business; we talked about our future.

Why do we meet every month?
Because consistency is our strength! From keeping up with our monthly contributions to showing up on time, every small action helps our group grow stronger. These meetings aren't just for reports—they are where we support each other’s dreams.

From Learning to Earning!
The highlight of the day? Our hands-on peanut production training! Every woman was involved, learning how to turn a simple ingredient into a source of income.

🌸 What’s Next?
Get ready, Our next goal is perfume-making training. We are equipping ourselves with the skills to be financially independent and successful.

When women support women, amazing things happen! 👭💪

Building a Resilient Future: Why Inclusive Infrastructure Matters

As part of our project, "ADVOCACY FOR THE INTEGRATION OF DISABILITY AND GENDER INCLUSION INTO NIGERIA’S CLIMATE EMERGENCY FRAMEWORK AND POLICIES," we are highlighting the life-saving importance of accessible urban planning.

The Message
The reality of climate change means more frequent floods, storms, and heatwaves. For our communities to be truly safe, our infrastructure must be designed for everyone. As our latest graphic states: "Disability inclusive infrastructure saves lives during floods, storms, and heatwaves."
From Advocacy to Action
Inclusive infrastructure isn't just about ramps; it’s about ensuring that evacuation routes, emergency shelters, and public transport are accessible to women and girls with disabilities. When we design for disability, we build a safer Nigeria for every citizen.
We are proud to partner with the Disability Rights Fund (DRF) to push for these vital changes in Nigeria’s climate framework.

Image Description
Image: A professional advocacy graphic featuring the Disability Rights Fund and AWWDI logos at the top. The central text in bold purple and orange reads: "Disability inclusive infrastructure saves lives during floods, storms, and heatwaves." To the right, a circular illustration depicts a modern, green, and inclusive city landscape. It shows people in wheelchairs navigating an accessible park with trees, a public bus, and sustainable buildings. AWWDI’s social media, email, and website details are listed at the bottom.

Taking our message of inclusion and safety directly to the heart of the community! 🚶‍♀️

On February 27, 2026, the AWWDI team hit the streets of Kuje, Abuja, for a very special community engagement day. We didn't just want to talk in a classroom, we wanted to reach girls with disabilities, their families, and their neighbors right where they live.

Our goal was simple, to make sure everyone understands how to keep girls with disabilities safe from harm (SGBV) and ensure they have the same chance to go to school as everyone else.

What We Did Together 🤝

Heart-to-Heart Talks: We went door-to-door, market and through neighborhoods to have real conversations about the rights of girls with disabilities.
Learning Through Stories: Instead of a long lecture, we used role-plays and demonstrations to show how to handle real-life situations and where to get help.
Listening and Sharing: We shared flyers with easy-to-follow advice, but more importantly, we listened to the challenges and experiences of the community members.

A Moment That Inspired Us

One of the most powerful moments of the day was meeting Mary, a brave young girl with a hearing impairment. Even though communication can sometimes be hard, Mary stood tall and shared her own story about the challenges she faces in school and staying safe. Her courage was contagious, it inspired so many other girls to speak up for themselves.

A Future Built Together.
This activity showed us that when we engage directly with parents, teachers, and neighbors, everyone starts to take ownership of making our community safer and more inclusive.

A massive thank you to the Commonwealth Disabled People’s Forum (CDPF) for supporting this initiative under our project for inclusive education and economic independence.

Together, we are making sure no girl is left behind! 🦾❤️
