Our Story

There are certain cultural norms surrounding investing in our society. From a young age, we learn about putting spare change in a piggy bank. As we get older and get summer jobs, we are told to put some of our earnings away for a “rainy day”. Later, when we get our first real jobs, one of the earliest financial decisions we have to make is what percentage of our earnings to allocate to a 401k plan.

Later still, if we have children and can afford it, we open a 529-plan for tax-deductible college savings. These are all very important investments for our long-term financial health (and that of our children).

Yet there is a different kind of “investing” we do several times a day, one driven by biological need rather than financial planning, and that is the food we choose to put in our mouths. We don’t usually think of breakfast, lunch, and dinner as forms of investment, but pause and reflect on that for a second.
