Topic: You are the Light of the World
Text: Matthew 5:13-16
Memory Verse: Matthew 5:14 –15 - “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

Background
From the beginning of the year, we have established the fact that we have Divine advantage. The privilege we have by the grace and power of the Almighty God gives us an edge to do great exploits. Dan 11: 32 b …But the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits (KJV).

The advantage that we have positions us strategically to influence our world. Our main text for today preaches a complete message.

Matt 5: 13-16 13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.

As children of God, we are expected to influence the world. Unfortunately, many are influenced by the world. They dress to suit worldly trends – they sag their trousers, show off b***s in public, etc. They speak vulgar words and copy the crafty ways of the world; they give and take bribes; many live in fornication and adultery and engage in examination malpractices. The list is endless. If we do these things, what then is the difference between us and unbelievers?

Practical Life Lessons
• The injunction is very clear. We are the light of the world. Are you a shining example in your sphere of influence?
• One thing you do not realise is that that person who hates you for doing the right things are of no consequence when it comes to important life issues, Many of them secretly wish they could do what you do. When you then bend backwards to compromise so you can impress them, they end up disappointed.

Prayer Points
Father, grant me the grace to light up my corner of the world in Jesus Name.
