Detty December Can Strangle Your Health; Take Caution.

All work and no play, they say, makes Jack a dull boy, that is one of the reasons detty December was formed, for premium fun.

Detty December, which typically runs from December 6 to 31, sometimes spilling over into January, is a time of excess in Nigeria, with nonstop activities and plenty of naira, the local currency, being splashed around with a lot of delicacy to choose from. Detty means “dirty,” slang for letting loose and that’s precisely what happens. There are festivals, concerts, star-studded events, pop-up markets, beach parties, and weddings all happening back to back, with each event competing to be bigger, flashier, and more memorable than the last.
While having fun, it’s important to know that certain habits can cause harm to our health or may influence how we feel, even if it’s for a day or two. Let’s take a look at those habits;
Overeating 🍝
This is the queen mother of the bad holiday habits (food). Overeating has its consequences. For more details, read here. People with ulcers, hypertension, diabetes, and other illnesses have to take caution during this period on their choice of food to avoid being strangled by detty December.
Drinking of Alcohol 🍺
The holiday season is associated with a significant increase in alcohol consumption and related problems, from Short-Term Effects like Hangover to Long-Term Effects that might affect your organs.
Overspending and Debt 💵
When you don’t plan or have a particular amount set aside for spending, there is a high tendency that you will overspend and fall into debt. To have premium fun, you have to spend. So plan and spend wisely while having fun, or else you might run into depression and might have high blood pressure because of overthinking.

Neglecting sleep/routine can negatively affect your physical and mental health.

Let’s look at the good side of detty December. 🤩
oh yes, there will be a lot of dancing, which is good for your health (you burn calories and allows adequate blood flow in your body), bonding with friends and family 👪 (elevating your love hormone “oxytocin”).

We all know anything done in excess can have an adverse effect on your health, in as much as you want to have premium fun, don’t forget to know when to stop or reduce your activities, enjoy treats but balance them with fiber-rich foods (veggies) and hydrate, Limit phone time and step away from social media when it makes you feel bad.

What is a detty December if you can’t see a glorious new year?

Don’t lose a child, when you can save them
Malnutrition a critical issue.

The first 1,000 days of a child’s life offer a unique window of opportunity for preventing undernutrition and its consequences. Nigeria has the second-highest burden of stunted children in the world, with a national prevalence rate of 32 percent of children under five. An estimated 2 million children in Nigeria suffer from severe acute malnutrition (SAM).

A mother rushed her child lifeless to the clinic the other day, she spoke about, how her baby has not been eating for sometime and how she noticed she has been losing weight and she had been giving her some oral medications at home, until it became severe and he ran to a nearby medical store for help, she could not find a solution, so she came to us,and the doctor diagnosed the child of severe acute malnutrition (SAM).

🤷‍♀️Why should a Mother wait until the last minutes before taking action that should have been taken months ago? well I don’t know, maybe lack of knowledge, maybe she believe with her care and littles treatment , her child would have been better. sincerely I would say lack of knowledge contributes to most infant/ child death resulting from malnutrition.

Our focus is on Undernutrition which is a specific type of malnutrition that is caused by a deficiency of essential nutrients, calories, or both.

☸️Signs to look out for in children with undernutrition
★physical signs

1.Being shorter than average for their age or not gaining weight as expected.

2.Swelling in the feet, ankles, legs, or abdomen can be a sign of protein deficiency.

3.Pale or dry skin.

4.Getting sick more often, and taking longer to recover from illness.

5. Feeling tired, weak, and lethargic.

☸️The Way Forward
A dietitian is the most preferred physician to see, he or she will advise and recommend dietary changes to be made.
They may also suggest:
🍕A healthier, more balanced diet.

🍕Eating “fortified” foods that contain extra nutrients.

🍕Snacking between meals.

🍕Having drinks that contain lots of calories.

☸️Conclusion
As a guardian or a parent do not wait till your child case is severe before you take that child to the hospital, early intervention can save that child.

Let’s get real—body odour is a genuine concern! If that unpleasant smell is lingering, it's essential to address it rather than ignore it. But don’t worry! There are practical steps you can take to freshen up and boost your confidence. Say goodbye to body odour with these tips, and embrace a more hygienic lifestyle! .

How would you tell someone he/she has body odor

How would you tell someone he/she has body odor

HOW CAN I TELL SOMEONE HE/SHE HAS BODY ODOUR

I know how hard it can be to tell someone, especially a lady, she smells bad without turning into their mortal enemy. while I was a teenager my mum would scold me and ensure that I take my bath always, especially after I finished strenuous work that made me sweat, she would say “Okekeni you have body odor, go and take your bath” oh! how I hate that statement. Regardless she was right but it hurt my feeling since then am very conscious of my body and I ensure I always smell nice.

Apocrine, Eccrine, and sebaceous glands are the 3 sweat gland human have, apocrine functions by secreting sweat

Both males and females have sweat glands that produce sweat and when it combines with bacteria on the skin it releases a bad smell, Sweat itself is virtually odorless to humans. However, the rapid multiplication of bacteria and their breaking down of sweat into acids can cause unpleasant smells.

Keep in mind that, poor body hygiene, diet, medication, and health conditions can lead to body odor.

Telling. one he or she has body odor might sound very offensive especially if that person is not one of your close friends.

My friends were so generous to share some helpful tips with me on how to tell someone she/she has an offensive smell

“Find a suitable atmosphere where no one is likely to hear your conversation Tell that person(in a calm way) you noticed that he/she has a smell and suggest helpful tips to how the odor can be taken care of” Bar. Jessica

“Try to make the conversation as friendly as possible, and ask the person how the day went if it was filled with rigorous activity or not, Knowing the person's daily activities, might give you an idea of how to continue the discussion. show your concerns and finally tell him what you notice and suggest a way forward to stop and prevent the odor” NNoble Samuel

It stated further that to prevent excessive sweating and body odor, these home remedies for body odor will help eliminate foul smells and leave you feeling healthy, clean, and fresh (https://dailytrust.com/ways-to-tackle-body-odour)

1. SHAVE UNDERARM- A lot of hair under your arms can create a swampy environment for bacteria. Hair is porous, meaning it easily absorbs odors and can even slow the evaporation of sweat. Hair traps odorants, especially when it’s located in your armpits. Shaving your underarms helps to stop body odor because it inhibit bacteria from getting trapped in the armpit

2. Vinegar and hazel are natural antiseptics capable of reducing the PH of the skin for an antibacterial environment.

Different method work for different people in preventing body odor, however good body hygiene is the best way to prevent body odor

So before you talk to someone about their body, do well to know that individual, show your deepest concern, and advice that person in love

Do you often feel the need to always urinate and feel very thirsty, even after drinking water? This might be the case. Watch and find out what Diabetes insipidus is all about.

Diabetes Insipidus
Do you often feel thirsty and p*e a lot?

💧 Diabetes insipidus is a condition in which the body cannot regulate fluids normally, leading to excessive fluid excretion.
It is a rare condition that causes the body to excrete large amounts of dilute urine, leading to extreme thirst.

❌Note that this condition is not related to diabetes mellitus, which involves high glucose or sugar in the blood.

Let’s dive in deeper. When we take in water or fluid, a major quantity goes into the kidneys. The kidney filters the fluid, excretes the excess as urine(water, salt, or other waste), and resorbs the required quantity into the bloodstream for normal body function.
A particular hormone called vasopressin or antidiuretic hormone (ADH) helps in the reabsorption of the fluid or water, when this hormone is produced in an insufficient quantity, less water will be reabsorbed, leading to excess urination.

Vasopressin is produced and stored in a special part of the brain called the pituitary gland. When there is a brain tumor or injury to the gland, our important hormone will be affected

💧Another reason why the needed quantity of water will not be reabsorbed into the bloodstream is caused by our kidneys’ inability to respond to the Vasopressin Hormone. This time the hormone is in its adequate quantity waiting for the kidney to give it some water to reabsorb, but the kidney, for some reason, refuses to yield, and when the kidney can’t hold much longer, it will release the water as urine, and most time the color will be pale, which causes the kidney to behave this way
1. High level of calcium in the bloodstream.

2. low level of potassium in the bloodstream.

3. A urinary tract infection or a blocked urinary tract can be a cause. Medically, all that I have explained is called Nephrogenic diabetes insipidus.

In very severe cases of diabetes insipidus, a person can p*e up to 20 liters of urine in a day, a typical adult urinates an average of about 1 to 3 liters a day.

Imagine losing such a quantity of water in a day, some complication would surely arise, such as
Symptoms
🥃Excessive thirst

💧Frequent urination, often at night
Passing large volumes of very dilute, pale urine
😴Fatigue and dizziness due to dehydration

💊Treatment

1. For mild cases of insipidus: Increase fluid intake to compensate for water loss.

2. Medication: A synthetic vasopressin, desmopressin, can be used to replace the missing hormone.

3. For Nephrogenic Insipidus: Treatment often focuses on managing the condition through lifestyle changes and sometimes medication to help the kidneys handle water more effectively.

🏥There’s no cure for diabetes insipidus. But treatment is available that can ease its symptoms.

When do you need to see a doctor? If you notice that the symptoms above have been persistent for a while.
