At the early hours of today, 7th June 2021, the Medical Director, Prof. Saad Ahmed, received a team of researchers from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) who came on a familiarization visit.

The visit was to ascertain the hospital's readiness for the EWASH study ( Electrolysed Water for Surface Cleaning in Hospitals study).

Dr. Nkolika Uwaezuoke, Consultant Medical Microbiologist who was also part of the researchers accompanied the team to the Medical Director.

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja is one of three hospitals chosen to participate in this study which is the first of its kind in the country.

It promises to bring the hospital to International recognition and also foster more collaborations.

The study also will involve a 2 day training of our housekeeping (cleaners) staff and their supervisors on cleaning guidelines, processes and procedures.

This study promises to further strengthen relationship between FMC, Abuja and LSHTM in terms of research as all microbiology processing will be carried out in the hospital according to international best practices and with support from the hospital management.

Kudos to our pragmatic Medical Director and the Management for their support and commitment in ensuring that this study takes off well.
