I got a nasty sting from an angry scorpion...
I was trying to plant some tumerics in a particular space I initially created for planting flowers.
I was actually using my bare hands to remove the w**d in preparation for the planting. I didnt see it, but it must have felt threatened...afterall, I was encroaching into its territory...
It dashed out from its hiding in all its anger and gave me a bountiful dose of its venom...
By the way, all scorpions can sting, but some stings are more deadlier than others...this particular one belonged to the latter...
I am not usually bothered much with stings from these guys, but this one was very different...the effect of the venom was almost instantaneous...
I began to feel a kind of numbness which was travelling fast through my entire hand. Then, there is also the nasty headache that came so suddenly...all these in a matter of few minutes...
My heartbeat became faster initially, but it started going down in a matter of minutes...as if I was choking...some of these guys can be deadly like that...
From experience, I knew this guy intends to send me to my ancestors early, but I was not prepared for such journey just yet...
First thing I did was chew 3 bitter kolas while I told my boy to get me a particular powder I use in treating scorpion bites.
The powder was made from cobwebs...imagine that?
Not just cobwebs but the type you find in village kitchens...the thick dark type...
Just get a lump size of the cobweb, add some black pepper and grind all into powder...what you have is a potent remedy for scorpion bites!
Whoever taught those ancestors this remedy is indeed a bundle of endless eternal wisdom...
I used a blade to make some incisions on the trouble spot and then rubbed in the powder.
Within about 3 minutes, the venom started coming out in form of a thick blackthreadlike something...all by itself...
There are things that seemed insignificant, but they are very potent when you have an understanding of how they work... This is one of those.
That was how I was able to remove the scorpion venom that would have sent me to the great beyond.
Believe me, it was not a very palatable experience...
This happenened on Friday. But I was strong enough to go to the stadium this morning...herbal remedies can be like that...
But as a herbal practitioner, these things do happen...and that is why - just like the Boy's Scout, we are always prepared.
And in case you were wondering why my first reaction was to eat bitter kola, it was because the bitter kola slows down the effect of the poison significantly...thus giving you time to effectively handle the situation.

By the way, not all scorpions are this deadly. Some stings would only give you a certain level of discomfort and then, the effect would fade out with time...
But there are certain species that can inject enough venom to knock out any man...or even kill...so, do be careful with scorpions...
