BLOOD PRESSURE
Some drinks can make your blood pressure go up, either for a short time or in the long run. Knowing them helps you make better daily choices, especially if you already have hypertension or heart problems.
1. Energy Drinks
Examples: Red Bull, Monster
These drinks contain a lot of caffeine and sugar.
They can raise your blood pressure quickly and sharply.
What you may feel: fast heartbeat, restlessness, jitteriness.
2. Coffee
Coffee makes some people more alert, but it can also tighten the blood vessels.
This can cause a small to moderate rise in blood pressure for about 1–3 hours.
This is more noticeable if you're not a regular coffee drinker.
3. Black Tea & Green Tea
Tea has a smaller amount of caffeine.
It causes only a mild increase in blood pressure and usually settles quickly.
4. Soft Drinks / Cola
Sodas contain sugar and sometimes caffeine.
They can cause a slight rise in blood pressure, especially if taken often.
5. Alcohol
A small amount may not raise blood pressure right away.
But drinking too often or too much over time can cause a steady, long-term increase in blood pressure.
6. Salty Drinks
Examples: salted tomato juice, packaged soups, salty sports drinks.
Salt makes your body hold onto more water.
More water in the blood vessels means higher blood pressure.
7. Licorice Drinks (Herbal drinks with licorice)
Licorice contains a natural chemical that makes your body keep salt and lose potassium.
This can cause a strong rise in blood pressure, especially if taken often.
8. Pre-Workout Drinks
These contain strong stimulants and high caffeine levels.
They can raise blood pressure quickly, especially before exercise.
