One thing that a lot of people ignore is that IVF (in-vitro fertilisation) isn’t just the artificial insemination of an egg, it also includes the selection of the best s***matozoon among the available ones.
Too many men take it for granted that everyone of their s***matozoa is healthy; however, the truth is a lot of times, there is a lot of damaged s***m cells that can fertilise the egg and end up causing problems for both the woman and the child.
Take for example Ned Nwoko. It’s known that Regina Daniels conceived their two kids through IVF. And it’s not necessarily because Ned is impotent and cannot perform s*xually. However, Ned is in his 60s; therefore, the quality of his s***m is no longer the same as it used to be when he was in his 20s or 30s.
Also, we need to consider the possibility that Ned might have wanted a particular s*x for his kids (they are both boys); same way Fani Kayode selected the s*x of his triplet boys with his ex-wife, Precious.
Moving on to Chimamanda, she might have been forty-seven years old when she had her twin boys which she most likely conceived through IVF, but keep it in mind that her husband, Ivara Esege, is ten years older than her and was in his 50s when they began the process.
This means that the IVF most likely did more than just unite his s***m cell with Chimamanda’s egg. There was a selection for his best s***m cell too.
As a matter of fact, it could be that they didn’t even use his s***m and instead went for a donor. Same way, women can also use eggs from a donor.
My point is, IVF is a complex process that includes numerous steps and offers the patients a variety of opportunities, including surrogacy. And the age of all the people involved matters, not just that of the woman donating the egg and/or carrying the pregnancy.
So, enough of trying to paint IVF as the solution for infertile (privileged) women only.
IVF has been giving hope to men who suffer from low s***m motility and azoos***mia since its inception.
We just happen to live in a world where we like to think that only women suffer from reproductive issues.
Or that every birth defect or health issue associated with pregnancy are a result of the woman’s poor health and genetic material.
The man also plays a key role in determining the pregnancy’s viability, mother’s health, and foetus’s health.
