Dr Omamuyovwi Meashack Ijomone or simply Mamus Ijomone, is a Neuroscientist, Anatomist, Academician, Research Strategist and Consultant. He is an Associate Professor at the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, Nigeria, where he leads the Laboratory for Experimental and Translational Neurobiology. He is also a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein), New York, USA. He obtained a BSc Human Anatomy (2006) at the University of Port Harcourt, and MSc and PhD (2011 and 2015 respectively) at the Obafemi Awolowo University. He held a postdoctoral position from 2017 to 2018 at Einstein, USA. His research activities are focused on understanding how the brain is affected by an interplay of genetic and environmental factors that could cause perturbations and/or death to brain cells at critical stages of development and across the lifespan.
Dr Ijomone has received several fellowships and grants including the IBRO-ISN Research Fellowship, IBRO Return Home Fellowship, ISN-CAEN 1B Grants, Young IBRO Award, Alexander von Humboldt Georg Foster Experienced Researchers Fellowship, IBRO Early Career Award, ISN Career Development Grant, amongst others. He has also received the Prof James Kimani Lecture Award from the Society of Neuroscientists of Africa and The Royal Society, UK Colin Blakemore Bursary Award. Presently, he holds a NIH Emerging Global Leader Award, a 5-year grant leveraging the innovative Caenorhabditis elegans model to study gene-environment interactions in autism spectrum disorder.
Dr holds several academic leadership roles and serves on numerous scientific committees both nationally and internationally. He is member of the ISN Career Development Committee and serves on the NIH Neurotoxicology and Alcohol Study Section. He has authored over 90 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in high impact journals and book series. He is actively involved in the mentorship of undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as early-career scientists.
