DID YOU KNOW???

▶️ Foods are not the primary sources of stomach ulcers, but they can play a role in worsening the symptoms or facilitating the ulcer healing process.

▶️Peptic ulcers also called stomach ulcers are caused by long-term use of certain medications, as well as the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), an infection that requires treatment with antibiotics.

▶️However, following an ulcer diet can help reduce the pain and irritation associated with these sores on the lining of the stomach, esophagus, or small intestine.

▶️Some foods, like berries and grapes, help repair damaged tissue. But alcohol and spicy foods, for example, irritate the digestive tract's natural layer of protection and can worsen ulcers.

▶️This article will explain which foods to eat and which to avoid if you have a stomach ulcer.

▶️FOODS TO EAT AND AVOID WHEN YOU HAVE AN ULCER

▶️BEST CHOICE
▶️Fruits: Any fresh or frozen fruits contain helpful fiber and antioxidants e.g Berries, apples, grapes. If citrus fruits or juices like orange or grapefruit trigger reflux, avoid them.

▶️ Vegetables: Leafy greens vegetables and cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli, cauliflower, and kale) are packed with antioxidants that are especially good for overall health and healing.

▶️ Lean proteins: Skinless poultry, lean beef like sirloin or tenderloin, fish, eggs, tofu, tempeh, dry beans, and peas are excellent sources of low-fat protein. Fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines provide omega-3 fats, which can reduce inflammation and may be helpful in preventing another ulcer.

▶️Fermented dairy: Products like yogurt provide probiotics (helpful bacteria) along with protein, so they're good choice.

▶️Breads and grains: Whole grain breads, and whole or cracked grains like oats, quinoa, farro, millet, or sorghum are good sources of fiber to include in your diet.

▶️Others include:
• okra
• fish
• Unripe plantain
• cucumber🥒
• Garden egg
• Wheat
• Moi Moi
• Egg🥚
• Carrots🥕
• Cereals
• Brown rice
• Olive oil

▶️WHAT TO AVOID
🔽Alcohol: All alcohol is a stomach irritant and will delay healing. Avoid wine, beer, and spirits.

•🔽 Caffeine: Cut back or stop drinking coffee, tea, and caffeinated sodas. They can increase stomach acid production.

🔽Milk: There was a time when milk was used in treating ulcers, but research has found that it increases stomach acid. It's best to avoid it.

🔽Certain meats: Skip any highly seasoned meats, lunch meats, sausages, and fried or fatty meats and proteins.🌭🥩

🔽 High-fat foods: Try to avoid large amounts of added fats, which can increase stomach acid and trigger reflux. You may need to avoid gravy, cream soups, and salad dressings

🔽Spicy foods: Avoid food made with chili peppers, horseradish, black pepper, and sauces and condiments that contain them.

🔽Salty foods: avoid food that are high in salt. They are linked to a higher risk of H. pylori ulcers.

🔽Chocolate: Chocolate can increase stomach acid production, and some people find that it triggers reflux symptoms🍫🍫

🔽Others include:
• Beans
• Pepper soup🍲
• Grapes
• Orange 🍊
• Fried fatty foods🍟
• Hot cocoa
• Cola
• Sausages.🌭

5 FOODS THAT WILL BOOST MEMORY AND BRAIN HEALTH
• Keeping your brain healthy is key to maintaining overall well-being and mental sharpness throughout your life. The food you eat plays a critical role in your brain’s health, affecting everything from memory retention to clarity of thought.

• A diet rich in foods that boost brain function is essential to enhance cognitive abilities and protect against neurological decline.

Here are five foods known for their positive effects on memory and brain health:

1. Fatty Fish

Omega-3 fatty acids are abundant in fatty fish like salmon, trout, and sardines, making them crucial for brain health. These fatty acids are essential for building cell membranes throughout the body, including neurons, and the cells in the brain.

2. Blueberries

Packed with antioxidants, blueberries can protect the brain from oxidative stress and may help reduce the effects of age-related conditions like Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. They also have anti-inflammatory properties.

3. Turmeric

Known for its vibrant yellow color and health benefits, turmeric contains curcumin, which can cross the blood-brain barrier. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects and is linked to improvements in memory and overall brain function.

4. Broccoli

This vegetable is high in antioxidants and vitamin K, making it one of the best foods for brain health. Vitamin K is vital for forming sphingolipids, a type of fat within brain cells. Broccoli also contains glucosinolates, which may help keep your brain sharp and prevent cognitive decline.

5. Nuts

Walnuts, in particular, are noted for their high levels of DHA, an Omega-3 fatty acid that can improve cognitive performance and protect against age-related cognitive decline. Nuts also offer other brain-boosting nutrients, such as antioxidants and vitamin E, along with healthy fats.

Anorexia means a loss of appetite and inability to eat, often due to a physical illness.
• Anorexia nervosa is when a person intentionally restricts their food intake.

Anorexia nervosa is the name of a mental health condition. It is a serious disease, but, with the right treatment, recovery is possible. It is part of a potentially life threatening mental health disorder that involves emotional challenges, an unrealistic body image, and an exaggerated fear of gaining weight.

Anorexia nervosa often appears during a person’s teenage years or early adulthood, but it can sometimes begin in the pr***en years or later in life.

Anorexia nervosa symptoms
• severe loss of muscle mass
• listlessness, fatigue, or exhaustion
• low blood pressure
• lightheadedness or dizziness
• low body temperature with cold hands and feet or, possibly, hypothermia
• swollen hands and feet
• loss of menstruation or less frequent periods
• insomnia
• constipation
The person may also demonstrate certain behaviors, such as:

limiting their overall food intake or the range of foods they consume
showing excessive concern with weight, body size, dieting, calories, and food
exercising a lot, taking laxatives, or inducing vomiting
assessing their body weight and size frequently
talking about being “fat” or having overweight
denying feeling hungry or avoiding mealtimes
developing food rituals, such as eating foods in a specific order
cooking for others without eating
withdrawing from friends and social interaction

RISK FACTORS
Several factors can increase a person’s risk for developing anorexia nervosa, including:

• past criticism about their eating habits, weight, or body shape
• history of teasing or bullying, especially about weight or body shape
• a sense of pressure from society or their profession to be slim
• low self-esteem
• sexual abuse
• historical trauma, such as racism.

Diagnosis
Early diagnosis and prompt treatment increase the chance of a good outcome.

TREATMENT
Strategies include:

• cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which can help the person find new ways of thinking, behaving, and managing stress
family and individual counseling, as appropriate
• nutritional therapy, which provides information on how to use food to build and maintain health
• medication to treat depression and anxiety
supplements to resolve nutritional deficiencies

ÇOMPLICATIONS
Complications can affect every bodily system, and they can be severe.
They include problems with:

• the cardiovascular system
• the blood, such as a low white or red blood cell count
• the digestive system
• the kidneys
• hormonal imbalances
• bone strength

PREVENTION
Eating disorders can be caused by a variety of factors and there is currently no known way to prevent the development of anorexia nervosa.

However, recognizing the symptoms and seeking treatment early can help improve the chances of recovery.

These programs typically involve changing public policy, encouraging people to question diet culture and the media, promoting body acceptance, and replacing restrictive diets with practices like intuitive eating.

Summary
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder and a serious mental health condition. It involves restricting food intake, which can lead to severe nutritional deficiencies.

The effects of anorexia nervosa can be life threatening, but counseling, medication, and treatment for underlying mental health issues can help people with this condition.

If a person has signs of anorexia nervosa, they should seek medical help. Early diagnosis and treatment are more likely to lead to a positive outcome.
