Hello health seekers, happy to share alongside us the good news that June has arrived, and with it, the official start of summer!

June, through August are all about embracing the warmth and joy of the season. Everyone should finding new ways to enjoy the great outdoors.

Whether you're planning a picnic, going for a hike, or simply soaking up the sun in your backyard: remember to be cautious of medical and environmental challenges that come with celebrating the beauty and wonder of our natural world.

Whether it's through camping, fishing, kayaking, or simply taking a leisurely stroll through a park, there are endless opportunities to explore and appreciate the great outdoors.
But our health remains the greatest wealth. Take your routine medications and don't forget the approved over the counter insect repellants, sun burn ointments and allergy reducers.

If you're a fan of music, June/July is also home to many music festivals and concerts, from classical to country to rock and roll. So grab your friends and family, and enjoy the sounds of summer while maintaining adequate precautions associated with crowding.

After touching external surfaces, rails, chairs and bottles please wash your hands and disinfect bags, shoes and clothes.

Lastly, June is a time for graduations, both high school and college. Congratulations to all the graduates out there, who have worked hard and achieved great things.

Although this is a time to celebrate accomplishments, please do not overwork or overexert yourself. Stress can trigger the exacerbation of any existing illness or medical diagnosis.

Watch your energy level and act accordingly. Rest and sleep well. Do not forget those medical appointments that have fallen in between these jolly months.

Health is Wealth.

It's extremely cold in some parts of the world at this time.

Stay warm. Be careful when shoveling the snow. Avoid icy roads whether you are driving or walking.

Don't neglect the need to stay compliant with your medications and medical appointments.

This weather shall soon give way to a more favorable and agreeable one.

In the meantime, always remember that Health is Wealth.

Chronic conditions aka long-term physical conditions, are health conditions that last at least one year and require ongoing medical attention or limit daily activities. They are often not curable, but can be managed with medication or other treatments.

Some examples of chronic conditions include:
Arthritis, Asthma, Cancer, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Diabetes, Heart disease, High blood pressure (hypertension), HIV/AIDS, Multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson disease.

Regular physical activity can help you to manage chronic conditions and prevent complications. It can also help you feel better, function better, sleep better, and control your weight.

Some ways chronic illnesses can negatively impact you include:

Irritability and difficulty in relationships
Anxiety, tension, sadness
Loss of interest in things you once enjoyed
Disturbed sleep
Fatigue
Body aches and pains, including headaches
Cognitive issues

Follow up with your primary care doctor. Do not wait till things take an awful turn before managing your health. At this unsavoury point, disease managing becomes an expensive burden. Act on time.

Health is wealth.

Happy New Year everyone. Here's a wish for a prosperous 2024 to you and all your loved ones.

"Don’t Skip A Beat": Prepare for Heart Attacks.
The important facts about a healthy heart remain the same:

1) Know the risks. Be educated about the risks you and your loved one could be facing. Everyone has only 1 heart. Take good care of it. Adjust your diet positively. Improve your exercise routines. Be kind to people. Love yourself positively. Care for others genuinely.

2) Never be afraid to have a heart-to-heart discussion. Engage friends, family members, and loved ones in a conversation about the risks associated with a heart attack and discuss what you can do together to prevent a heart attack.

3) Recognize the signs of mild and fatal heart attacks. Never ignore an ominous sign, no matter how small or insignificant it seems. Slurred speech, sudden memory loss, unrecognized absent-mindedness, persistent headaches, chest pain (whether radiating or non-radiating), etc. Get help immediately. Do something. It's better to be safe, not sorry.

4) After each visit to your healthcare provider or after a recent hospitalization by you or your loved one, write down important information. Build on your knowledge. Expand your health-seeking behaviors. Be more involved. Be a client. Be an active participant in your life and in the life of your family members.

As we always, say: Health is Wealth.

Remember, small changes become BIG when put together.

Good health is always unlimited wealth even during the ongoing hot and arid weather. Adequate hydration and taking frequent breaks from any hard work is recommended for the summer weather.

Don't forget to attend your appointments and follow the medication regime prescribed by your healthcare providers.

Health is wealth: The use of medications to treat psychiatric illnesses is often a foundation of a successful treatment approach. It includes psychotherapy and behavioral techniques. Medications must be used in effective doses for sufficient periods to realise therapeutic effects maximally.

Many variables affect the practice of psychopharmacology: drug selection & administration, the psychodynamic meanings to the patient; and lastly family and environmental influences. Treatment response and the emergence of adverse effects must be monitored closely. If any negative or adverse effect occurs, dosage should be adjusted accordingly and appropriate treatments for emergent effects must be instituted as quickly as possible.

As a health, wellness, and safety training organization, amid the ongoing concerns of COVID-19: Laurel Initiative for Development holds you and your families dear to our hearts.

Your welfare is our biggest priority.

Our prayers are out to soothe the individuals and families already negatively impacted. May God touch them with His healing and helping hands we pray!

We are closely monitoring the situation and following the guidance from public health officials and government agencies, including the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Health organizations of other countries and the World Health Organization (WHO). Following the declaration by WHO that the corona virus outbreak is a pandemic because of its rapid spread all around the world, health agencies and various personnel have advised several safety measures on how best to stay safe at this time.

For everyone’s general health and safety in order to prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, the following precautionary practices are recommended:

• Limiting exposure to crowds.
• Cleaning most surfaces frequently because research suggests that viruses survive on most surfaces for around 48 hours.
• Handle cash carefully during this period. This is a good advice in terms of economic and health implications. Sadly, paper money can transport a live flu virus for up to 17 days. While polymer banknotes are considered three times cleaner than their paper counterpart, they can still carry harmful bacteria for anywhere between 6 and 24 hours.
• Wash hands often with warm water and antibacterial soap for at least 20 seconds – have fun timing it by humming or singing a refrain of ‘Happy Birthday to you.”
• Apply sufficient friction when rubbing hands together during hand-washing. Friction is necessary to break loose whatever may be adhering to the skin of your hands.
• Avoid touching inside of the sink during hand-washing.
• Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth. (The average person touches their face 15-23 times per hour without even realizing it!)
• Cover cough or sneeze using a bent elbow - not hand.
• Use a hand-sanitizer gel if soap and water is unavailable.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• If you sneeze, cover your mouth with a tissue, throw it in the trash, and wash your hands immediately.
• Consider using a paper towel or tissue to open common area doors, wherever possible.
• If you do not feel well, please stay home and self- isolate to help curb any spread of the infection.

Our classes will continue when and where possible using the new AHA guidelines.
• It is still very important to include the 2 breaths when teaching regular BLS- CPR/AED and Heart Saver First Aid, but the participants will “speak” the breath part during the hands-on training rather than actually breathing onto the manikin.
• A deeper emphasis will be given to Compression Only CPR™ for students.

Accommodations will be made at all times for participants who may be unwilling or unable to perform full CPR. Continuous sterilization and wiping down our manikins and AED trainers using disinfecting wipes after every class remain unchanged.

Remember, small changes become BIG when put together and 'Health is wealth.'
