The Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) is set to enroll 10,000 widows under the Widows Welfare Scheme into the State’s health insurance program.

This initiative, supported by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, will ensure widows across the state gain access to affordable, quality healthcare—because healthcare is a right, not a privilege.

In a bid to strengthen healthcare delivery and safeguard the rights of its 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝟐.𝟔 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 enrollees under the DSCHS, the Delta State Head of Service (HOS) has partnered with the DSCHC to identify and sanction health facilities that deny enrollees access to quality healthcare services.

This initiative was announced during a courtesy visit by the DSCHC team, led by the Chairman of the Governing board of the commission, Dr. Austin Obidi, and the DG/CEO, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, to the Delta State Head of Service (HOS), Dr. Mininim Oseji, in her office.

To improve treatment outcomes and ensure quality healthcare delivery for all residents, the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) has successfully concluded a multi-zone stakeholder engagement series with facility providers across Delta North, Central, and South and the state's civil servants.

At the heart of these engagements was the drive to:
🔹 Clarify recent policy updates under the DSCHS
🔹 Introduce the new facial recognition encounter system
🔹 Explain the adjusted enrollee benefit package
🔹 Debunk widespread myths about the scheme
🔹 Reaffirm the rights of enrollees and the roles of Service Quality Monitors (SQMs)

With over 2.6 million enrollees and counting, DSCHC remains committed to accessible, transparent, and patient-focused healthcare across the state.

At this high-level engagement in Asaba, civil servants received firsthand insight into recent updates to the DSCHS—including the facial recognition system and changes to the benefit package.

Over 2.6 million Deltans have been enrolled in the State’s health insurance scheme — yet many vulnerable residents still need help.

From Uvwie to Effurun, Ndokwa East, Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Ika South, Ika North East, Oshimili North, and Aniocha South, the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative (IEAI) is gaining ground — thanks to the generosity of leaders like Hon. John Nani, Hon. Frank Esenwa, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata, Dr. Patrick Ighomrore, and also the DG/CEO of the DSCHC Olorogun Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, thousands of indigent residents of Delta state have been enrolled into the scheme.

We call on more philanthropists, political leaders, private sector partners, and Deltans in the diaspora to key into this life-changing initiative and adopt enrollees in their communities. Let’s keep the momentum going — and make access to healthcare truly universal.

The Delta State Contributory Health Commission wish to remind all pregnant women residing in Delta State to register into the scheme and get a free health card.
All Children under 5 years must also be registered and get a free health card before attending hospital as:
No Health Card, No Free Treatment!
No Health Card, No Free Antenatal!
No Health Card, No Free Delivery!
