The Centre for Disability and Special Needs Research (CENDASNER) marked the World Disabilities Day. The event was also the official launch of Student Trust Fund to assist indigent students with disabilities with scholarships and money for their upkeep in school. The fund was kicked off with a $10,000 donation from the African Export Import Bank (Afrexim) bank of Cairo Egypt. In addition to the grant from Afrexim bank was a donation of Sienna Van for the Director's office. All these were presented to the University in an elaborate ceremony at the premises of the CENDASNER building opposite the university library/ adjacent to the PG School. The representative of AFREXIM Bank Mr Remmy Nwachukwu made the presentations to the Pro Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Prof Sulyman Alege Kuranga who in turn handed the keys of the vehicle to the Vice Chancellor Prof Charles Esimone. Several philanthropists were recognized with Award of Excellence plaques including Prof Ken Nwogu of the Faculty of Law, among others. The Director of CENDASNER Prof Willie Obiozor thanked Afrexim bank for the support to the Centre and promised to continue championing positive advocacy for students and staff with disabilities on campus. The Vice Chancellor Prof Esimone and Pro Chancellor equally commended the donors and supporters of CENDASNER for the great support, among others. Highlights of the event include presentation of N50, 000 cheque each to over 60 disabled students from the Trust fund, music performance by Visually Impaired music band, food and drinks and dances.
