🌍 CPHA Nigeria – Blood Cancer Awareness Month 💜

This September, we join the world in recognizing Blood Cancer Awareness Month — a time dedicated to increasing understanding of leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood-related cancers.

🧬 Blood cancers affect the normal production and function of blood cells, disrupting the body’s ability to fight infections and transport oxygen. Awareness is the first step toward early detection, research, prevention, and holistic care.

🌱 5 Medicinal Plants Studied for Blood Cancer Support
1. Turmeric (Curcuma longa)
• Active compound: Curcumin
• Medical value: Shown to inhibit cancer cell proliferation, induce apoptosis (cell death), and reduce inflammation.
2. Neem (Azadirachta indica)
• Active compounds: Azadirachtin, nimbolide
• Medical value: Demonstrates antioxidant, anti-proliferative, and immune-modulating effects against leukemia cells.
3. Moringa (Moringa oleifera)
• Active compounds: Isothiocyanates, niazimicin
• Medical value: Exhibits anti-leukemic potential by inducing cell cycle arrest and protecting healthy blood cells.
4. Green Tea (Camellia sinensis)
• Active compound: Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG)
• Medical value: Acts as a strong antioxidant, with research showing anti-lymphoma and anti-leukemic activity.
5. Soursop (Annona muricata, Graviola)
• Active compounds: Acetogenins
• Medical value: Known for cytotoxic effects against cancer cells, including some studies showing activity against leukemia and lymphoma.

đź’ˇ Takeaway

While these plants hold promising potential, they should not replace medical treatment. Instead, they can complement care under the guidance of qualified medical and phytomedicine professionals.

🙏 Join us in spreading awareness this month — together, we can inspire hope, promote early detection, and advance holistic approaches to fighting blood cancer.
