Lassa fever cases have recently been reported in Ondo, Edo, Taraba, and Bauchi States, with Bauchi currently among the most affected.

Lassa fever is preventable through good hygiene, clean environments, safe food storage, and early medical care.

Throwback to sometime last year, when YAHIC engaged the Bauchi State Ministry of Women Affairs on our FEF-OSC (EWoMoPP) project — a strategic engagement that unlocked critical partnerships for women’s economic empowerment and disability inclusion. Through this collaboration, we identified women with disabilities across target communities and trained community mentors on financial literacy, GBV prevention, WASH, maternal health, menstrual hygiene, and RMNCH+N.
These mentors are now stepping down this knowledge to women farmers, strengthening local capacity and ensuring sustainability beyond the project lifecycle. Grateful for partnerships that translate vision into lasting community impact.

We marked an important step forward as stakeholders came together to establish a Technical Working Group (TWG) dedicated to strengthening the moringa value chain, improving land access, and advancing women’s economic empowerment in agriculture.

Through a detailed presentation by YAHIC, participants explored existing gaps, emerging opportunities, and practical strategies — drawing insights from the EWoMoPP model to guide inclusive and sustainable solutions.

Rich discussions, stakeholder inputs, and a collective review of the draft ToR led to agreement on the TWG structure — setting the stage for coordinated action, stronger partnerships, and lasting impact across communities.

Last Friday, we convened a One-Day Workshop on the Validation of Gender Findings, bringing together CSOs, MDAs, community leaders, and women’s farmers.

Through participatory dialogue and evidence-based review, stakeholders validated research findings on gender barriers in moringa farming, shaping policy and programmatic recommendations to strengthen male ally interventions, improve community engagement, and guide TWG advocacy and state-level integration.

The outcomes will inform gender-responsive strategies that enhance women’s participation, boost family incomes, improve business efficiency, and influence policies for fairer, more inclusive agricultural systems in Nigeria.

In commemoration of the International Day of Education on January 23rd, YAHIC went on radio to advance conversations on basic and inclusive education.

Represented by our Programs Officer Tameshiya Titus and Programs Assistant, Bwala Hyelni James the discussion reflected on the theme of the year, "The power of youths in Co-creating education" while also highlighting Nigeria’s National Policy on Education (Policy 7) which states that Nigeria is committed to providing inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all learners, especially those who are vulnerable or have special needs." and further lay emphasis on inclusive, equitable, and quality learning for all. Listeners were engaged on how inclusive education can be strengthened in schools and communities, especially for learners with diverse needs.

By taking education advocacy to the airwaves, YAHIC continues to promote awareness, policy understanding, and collective responsibility for inclusive learning.

Education is more than access, it’s inclusion, dignity, and opportunity.

Today, we reaffirm our commitment to learning environments where every child is seen, supported, and given the chance to thrive, including children with learning disabilities and those often left behind. Through community action, teacher capacity building, and policy engagement, YAHIC continues to champion education that works for all.

Because when education is inclusive, communities grow stronger, and the future becomes fairer.
