"RE: SEEKING JUSTICE FOR AISHA AMINU: ENSURING EQUAL RIGHTS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS."
The attention of the Management of Federal Medical Centre Bida, has been drawn to series of write-ups relating to the above subject being circulated on various social media platforms.
We wish to firmly state that these write-ups smacks of an attempt by some unscrupulous persons to create mischief, as the issue is not a matter of discrimination as is being portrayed.
For the avoidance of doubt and to set the records straight, we wish to state the facts of the matter as follows:
1. The said candidate was not discriminated against because like other candidates, she was given equal opportunity to participate in the recruitment process undertaken by Federal Medical Centre Bida, in April, 2024.
2. The exercise followed due process of long listing, screening of applications, short listing, etc and it is worthy of mention that no candidate indicated having any form of disability in the applications received.
3. The process was highly competitive and the said candidate was one of those selected at the end of the exercise on the basis of merit and was offered appointment for a probationary period of two years.
4. It was discovered after she assumed duty that she could not perform the duties of a staff nurse which she was employed for.
5. The above necessitated a request for her to go for a medical examination, which is actually part of the requirements to be fulfilled by anyone offered appointment in a government hospital.
6. The medical examination revealed that she is unfit to practice as a nurse and it was on the basis of this that her appointment was withdrawn.
It is also worthy of note that there are persons with disabilities in the employment of the Federal Medical Centre, Bida. This is a testimony to the fact that the hospital does not discriminate against people with disabilities.
We wish to finally state that the action taken is in the interest of service delivery to our patients and in line with the rules of the public service.
