OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION TO CONGRESS MEMBERS OF NVMA KEBBI STATE CHAPTER

Dear Esteemed Congress Members,

We are pleased to inform you that on 14th May 2025, the Female Veterinarians Association of Nigeria (FEVAN) paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Council of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Kebbi State Chapter. The visit was aimed at fostering familiarisation and establishing a collaborative relationship with the parent association for the advancement of the veterinary profession.

The delegation from FEVAN was led by the Kebbi State Coordinator, Dr. Rafi Rabecca, who formally introduced the association and outlined its vision, mission, and objectives. She emphasized FEVAN’s dedication to promoting gender inclusivity, supporting the welfare and career development of female veterinarians, and actively contributing to the progress of veterinary medicine in Nigeria.

In response, the Chairman of NVMA Kebbi State Chapter, Dr. Umar Abubakar Alhaji, warmly received the FEVAN representatives. He commended their initiative and reaffirmed the chapter's readiness to work closely with FEVAN to promote unity and professional excellence. He highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts and inclusiveness as key drivers in moving the veterinary profession to greater heights.

A group photograph was taken at the end of the visit to commemorate this significant and cordial engagement between both bodies.

We encourage all Congress members to support this positive move and embrace opportunities for synergy that will strengthen our collective goals as veterinary professionals.

On May 6, 2025, at approximately 9:30 PM, a Fulani woman from Unguwan Rinamba Birnin Yauri reported difficulty with her doe's birthing process since the morning. Upon arrival, the doe was found in left lateral recumbency. Although she appeared alert and well-fed, she was highly exhausted. A vaginal examination revealed abnormal positioning and presentation of dead fetuses, which were delivered using manual traction. Afterwards, the dam received medication and was observed to be in good condition during follow-up care.

The two conjoined fetuses weighed 2 kg and were fused from the thorax to the abdominal cavity, yet they had separate heads, limbs, and ge***al organs. Radiographic findings were recorded via X-ray.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the fusion occurred at the costal cartilage, with a shared diaphragm, independent hearts and lungs, and a shared abdominal cavity containing independent organs, except for the liver. The shared liver had an abnormal dark colour and shape (approximately 12cm) but normal consistency. A liver section was sent to UDUS for histological a**lysis.
