🩺ADVANCED MATERNAL AGE (GERIATRIC PREGNANCY)

The woman's life is quite a funny one. As her peak reproductive years are between the late teens and late 20's.

Fertility (the ability to get pregnant) starts to decline when a woman is in her 30's, and more so after the age of 35. By age 40, the chances of getting pregnant in any month is about 40%.

The term Geriatric Pregnancy is referred to a pregnancy carried by someone who is 35 years of age or older.

According to Kecia Gaither, M.D., MPH, FACOG, double board-certified OB-GYN and maternal-fetal medicine specialist and Director of Perinatal Services at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln wants people capable of getting pregnant to understand the simple biological fact: "As you get older, the number of eggs you have decreases".

So as people capable of pregnancy age, the likelihood of having a multitude of medical conditions like hypertension and diabetes goes up, and that is a big reason why the risk of potential pregnancy complications increases.

Defining Pregnancy this way can be problematic, but the main reason a term like this was developed is because as one ages, complications become more during pregnancy.
As (assisted reproductive technology) ART advances and pregnancy becomes possible even after menopause.

The aim of acquiring this knowledge is not to scare people in this age group, but to be aware and keep you informed if life gets you to this point.

ON CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION CPR AND KNOWLEDGE OF MINOR EMERGENCIES

I have been around the hospital environment long enough to know that, quite a number of persons/patient relatives have little or no knowledge on handling emergencies or what to when faced with minor emergencies at home, work place, farm, on the road, while travelling etc.

We end up using methods not acceptable to a certain situation e.g. pouring water to resuscitate a victim of heart attack or electric shock, drinking palm oil at the ingestion of any poisonous substance, handling an accident victim etc.

You must not be a Health Care Provider to at least have some knowledge of handling first aid. A business man/woman should, a farmer should, a banker should, a teacher should, students...every human should know what to do where necessary before moving the victim to the HOSPITAL.

It is on this note, I have decided to share my knowledge with you.

PS: it's not free.

¶EMOTIONS AROUND THE HOSPITAL🤗

¶Sadly, we do so much of emotional intelligence, because we're expected to be emotionally stable to handle emergencies, critically ill and emotionally or mentally unstable clients.

¶Expected to keep a sad face through the shift. Cry when you lose a patient, continue smiling at already angry patients, but in all they're still beautiful emotions, when a family welcomes their bundle of Joy, gets well and fit to go home, strong after a long stay.

¶Boils down to taking time off as the Nurse to find your strength to Nurse the world. You're human with fare share of life's problems, you're expected to always turn up strong no matter how drained you were. You're strength to the weak. An emotionally strong Nurses will almost definitely Nurse an emotionally weak patient to life.
