The Executive Secretary/CEO was on a joint advocacy visit with the Commissioner for Poverty Eradication, the Chairman of the Enugu State Committee on Nutrition, representatives from UNICEF, and other key stakeholders to Igbo Etiti, Udi, and Nkanu West local government areas.

The visit aligns with the Federal Government’s N-774 initiative, aimed at establishing Local Government Area (LGA) Committees on Food and Nutrition across all 774 LGAs in Nigeria. In line with national standards to enhance nutritional outcomes, Enugu State is taking proactive steps to actualize this vision, recognizing that strong, community-based structures are vital to improving the nutritional status of its people.

The LGA Chairmen pledged their full commitment to the initiative, promising to inaugurate their respective LGA Committees on Food and Nutrition and to provide the necessary support to ensure these committees effectively carry out their assignments.

Last week, we were at Udeji Amechi to commission the newly constructed Type 2 Primary Health Centre, graciously built under the leadership of His Excellency. In a fitting tribute, the facility was named in honour of the late Dr. Dannis Onyia was a distinguished medical practitioner who dedicated his life to the service of humanity.

Dr. Onyia's legacy of compassion, excellence, and selfless care continues to inspire generations, and this PHC stands as a lasting memorial to his invaluable contributions to public health in Enugu state and beyond.

Yesterday, we were honored to host His Excellency during his routine primary healthcare supervisory visit to the newly built, fully equipped, and functional Type 2 PHC in Emene. His Excellency engaged with the good people of Emene, while also assessing the facility’s functionality and reaffirming his commitment to quality healthcare for all in line with his campaign promises and mandate for Ndi Enugu.

You may recall that the Governor initiated the most ambitious primary healthcare infrastructure project in our nation’s history: 260 state-of-the-art, Model Legacy Type 2 PHCs. Each facility is a 13-room citadel of health, featuring well-equipped wards, consulting rooms, maternity suites, pharmacies, and laboratories. Designed as self-sustaining ecosystems, they come with staff quarters, robust security, sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy, and solar-powered boreholes to ensure 24/7 healthcare services.

In just three weeks of operations, this PHC has already registered over 140 individuals and celebrated the birth of two new citizens of Enugu State. His Excellency, in his characteristic generosity, gifted the newborns cash tokens and pledged unwavering support to ensure that this facility delivers round-the-clock, quality healthcare to its population.

The Executive Secretary, and other key stakeholders urged the good people of Emene to take ownership of the facility, protect it, and ensure it functions at full capacity for the benefit of all.

On Thursday, March 14, 2025, the Enugu State Government marked a significant milestone in healthcare delivery with the operationalization of the newly constructed and fully equipped Emene Itukwu Emene Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC). This momentous event followed a three-day free medical outreach, during which hundreds of residents received quality healthcare services.

The occasion also witnessed the onboarding of over 500 residents onto the Enugu E-Health platform, further advancing digital health access in the state. Additionally, the event served as the official flag-off of the Enugu East Local Government Area Health Insurance Scheme, championed by the Executive Chairman of Enugu East LGA to ensure affordable and sustainable healthcare for the people.

The establishment of the Emene Type 2 PHC is a testament to the unwavering commitment of His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, to bring quality healthcare closer to Ndi Itukwu Emene, a community that previously had to travel over 10 kilometers to access basic primary healthcare services. This project underscores the state government’s dedication to universal health coverage and the well-being of its people.

We are pleased to collaborate with the Office of the First Lady of Enugu State to organize a one-day high-level advocacy meeting as part of the preparatory activities for the introduction of the Measles and Rubella (MR) vaccine in Enugu State in October 2025.

This initiative is part of a series of activities organised by the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum (NGSF) to support the upcoming mass vaccination campaign, which will be subsequently integrated into the Routine Immunization (RI) program.

The meeting brought together the spouses of the 17 LGA Chairpersons in the state, who were inaugurated as Immunization Ambassadors for their respective LGAs and have been tasked with championing community engagement and driving impactful advocacy to ensure the successful rollout of the MR vaccine and other immunization programs in Enugu State.
