Today, Enugu State officially launched the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction and Innovation Initiative (MAMII), following a successful week-long co-creation exercise. This marks a major stride in the State’s commitment to drastically reducing maternal and neonatal deaths, in line with the vision of His Excellency, where every mother and child is safe, healthy, and productive.

The event was graciously hosted by the Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, who played host to several dignitaries including the Honourable Commissioner for Health; Executive Secretaries of the ENSPHCDA , ESA-UHC, and ENSHMB; representatives from the FMoHSW and the NPHCDA; as well as development partners, religious and traditional leaders, and civil society organizations.

All stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the successful implementation of MAMII and achieving its goal of improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes across Enugu State.

The engagement, which held at the LGA levels, focused on updating the WDCs on their terms of reference, while also training them on effective feedback mechanisms. This is aimed at improving community monitoring and collaboration, ensuring better service delivery at the grassroots level.

We paid an advocacy visit to Igwe Samuel Asadu, Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, as part of preparations for the Measles-Rubella vaccine rollout scheduled for early next year.

The Executive Secretary appealed to the Igwe to use his influence to rally the Council and ensure the message cascades to the community level for wider acceptance.

In response, Igwe Samuel Asadu welcomed the initiative and pledged his full support, assuring that the Council would mobilize traditional rulers across the state to sensitize their communities, encourage caregivers to present their children for vaccination, and dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding the vaccine.
