College Of Medicine of the University of Lagos (CMUL) Bringing all the Medical Students Of College of Medicine Idi-araba together under one Umbrella. The internet unit is also available to both staff and students.

The College of Medicine was conceived by the founding fathers as a Medical School with a great deal of autonomy within the University of Lagos. It was founded to produce highly trained medical manpower to provide specialized medical services and to conduct research into health related problems. In October 1962, the first batch of 28 medical students were admitted into the College. Over the past 45

years, successive leadership of the College has worked towards the realization of these lofty goals and the College has grown remarkably. It now has four faculties Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dental Sciences and Child Health & Public Care. The Faculty of Dental Sciences is today a centre of Excellence and the College consists of 32 departments with a student population of 1628 and a staff strength of 1,111. The College to date has produced over 6,000 graduates in disciplines of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Microbiology, Physiotherapy, Physiology and Pharmacology. It has also produced graduates with M.Sc, M.Phil and Ph.D degrees in various discipline and MD degree in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Clinical Pathology and Child Health & Primary Care. Great strides has been taken in providing facilities for teaching and research. The College Library now has several volumes of books and subscription to current journals. The Audio-Visual unit has acquired computers for interactive training of staff and students. Current information is also available from the Medline search and reference update. The College has been able to computerize most of its services, students records has been computerized coupled with the fact that the Biomedical Communication unit now has an enhanced and computerized production facility. Biomedical Engineering has been re-activated to now give tech support for computer related problems within the College with it's glass blowing unit resuscitated to provide glassware. Again, the College has been given full acquisition of digital telephone lines to improve it's existing telephone services. The office of the Provost has dramatically been changed into a robust working environment with full internet access, e-mail and phones (See our Contact Page for details). The Medilag Consult has improved its services with the acquisition of Digital Satellite Television at the Staff Lounge and Visitors' Lounge

Our commitment to research and publications of research findings has led to the rebirth and regular publication of The Nigerian Quarterly Journal of Hospital Medicine, the Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences and other departmental / Society based journals. Infrastructural development in the College has been tremendous over the years. A 3-storey block of 88 rooms to accommodate female students has been completed along with other key infrastructural development still been geared into motion. Residential halls, academic buildings including the Old and New Great Halls has been rehabilitated. As a student in the College of Medicine, you will no doubt enjoy the serene environment as well as the cordial and warm atmosphere around staff and students alike. Campus hostel accommodation is virtually guaranteed as well as the security of life and property. Our students are disciplined and responsible Ladies and Gentlemen and various Alumni/Alumnae hold important positions both locally and internationally.
