On Safety Mondays, we will talk about the things families don’t like to talk about.
If you are a parent, older sibling, teacher, or guardian...this is a safe space and we are here to learn, to detect and protect, especially children.
Welcome to the series.

I know — it’s been quiet here for a while. Shuru shuru.

Between work, life and the many stories waiting to be told, I took a step back.
i needed to breathe.

But we’re back and ready to continue our journey on menstrual health, womanhood, and everything in between.

Thank you for your patience, for still being here and for believing in this space. I do not take any of you for granted.

From today, we move forward — stronger, softer and still committed to making every woman’s life easier and her story heard.

"The Girl I am, The Change I Lead"

Some girls teach us strength without saying a word.

Some remind us that love itself can be leadership.

My daughter is growing into a world that often tests girls before it trusts them and yet she meets each day with curiosity and grace.

With her, I’m reminded that courage isn’t loud, sometimes it’s the quiet choice to keep growing, keep dreaming, keep believing.

She doesn’t know it yet, but she’s already teaching me what strength and faith look like in motion.

She is the girl I pray the world listens to one day. The one who leads not with noise, but with valor.

Here’s to every girl finding her way through change, writing a story the world will one day call courage.
Celebrating the International Day of the Girl child 2025.
Her laughter is the language of tomorrow.

Spoiler: She’s definitely not fine and it’s not just mood swings.

Its like when you prepare your room by making the bed, putting on new sheets/curtains and all that because you are expecting your cousin to come. And he doesn't show, so now you gotta clean your room but start preparing again against next month because all you want is your cousin to come visit you. So in short, women are never the drama. It's always been the period.

I want to talk to someone who’s usually left out of the menstruation conversation: MEN

Truth be told - most men were never taught what a period really is.
They were told:
“It’s women’s business.”
“Don’t ask too many questions.”
“Just give her space.”
And because of that, many stay silent.
Some laugh it off.
Others feel uncomfortable when the topic comes up.

But silence has a price.
When men don’t understand periods, they can’t support the women around them.
They don’t know what to say when their sister is doubled over in pain.
They dismiss their partner’s mood swings as “being dramatic” instead of understanding the very real hormonal changes that come with PMS.
They avoid buying pads because they think it’s “not their place”or suna kunya
They also raise sons who think periods are gross instead of teaching them to be compassionate and kind.

I say that this needs to change.
Because menstruation isn’t shameful, it's definitely not not dirty.
And most definitely not something women should have to hide or manage alone.

Menstruation is a part of life.
And we can’t keep calling it a “women’s issue” when it affects half the population directly and all of us indirectly.
Including men in this conversation doesn’t make it awkward.
It makes it complete.
You don’t need to be a doctor to understand periods.
You just need to care.
To listen.
To be willing to ask, “How can I help?” and actually mean it.
So this year, I’m inviting men into the room.
Not to lecture.
Not to shame.
But to start a real conversation:

- Let’s teach boys early.
- Let’s support women better.
- Let’s make menstruation normal and not something to whisper about.
Because real men don’t laugh at periods.
They support the people who go through them.
And real change starts with understanding.

As if a slap to our faces, the rising cases of sexual assault are alarming. But come to think of it 🤔 is it rising or are people finally speaking up?

This April, we break the silence. Sexual Assault Awareness Month isn’t just a campaign it’s a movement to protect lives, support survivors and educate everyone.

Join me, Hajja The Midwife, on this journey. We’re not just talking the talk, we are standing up for change.

Stay with me.
