This community-based research exercise not only strengthened students’ competencies but also deepened their understanding of real-world public health challenges across the Gwagwalada Area Council.

By listening to the voices of the chiefs, youth, women, and households, they gained meaningful insight that will support future interventions and contribute to healthier, more resilient communities.
In our next semester, the research team will be returning to these communities to address some of the identified health and environmental issues through targeted outreach and evidence-based activities.

Through these engagements, the students identified prevalent health issues, ranging from limited access to primary healthcare services to concerns about sanitation, water safety, maternal health, and communicable diseases.

Environmental assessments revealed issues such as poor waste disposal practices, stagnant water pools, inadequate drainage systems, and limited health education resources.

These interactions provided valuable insight into the social fabric of each settlement and the factors influencing community health.
