MANAGING ASTHMATIC ATTACKS IN THIS RAINY SEASON
Asthma, the most common chronic disease that starts from childhood, has been known to have an increased episode/attack on the Patients during the rainy season as a result cold.
The Most common triggers of this attack are:
1. Cold
2. Dust
3. Pollens
4. To***co smoke
5. Exercise
6. Emotional stress, etc
The cold weather presented by the current rainy season in Nigeria has been the major trigger of the attack this period.
TIPS ON MANAGING COLD-TRIGGERED ASTHMATIC ATTACKS:
1. Patients are expected to stay away from cold environments as much as possible.
2. Put on thick sweaters both indoor and outdoor.
3. Avoid sleeping directly under the ceiling fan or AC.
4. Avoid being soaked by the rain.
5. Bath with warm water when necessary.
6. Ensure your inhaler is always handy when going out, should an attack occur.
7. Eat healthy and avoid too much junk and spicy foods.
8. Avoid drinking much of cold (refrigerated) water. Normal water at room temperature is best for you this period
9. Do not forget to take your medications, if you're on any that helps to prevent attacks.
10. Try as much as possible to reduce and manage stress.
Do not entertain fear or panic. Relax!!! This rainy season too shall pass
