A sore throat is a painful, dry, or scratchy sensation in the throat, often triggered by infections or environmental factors like dry air.
Though uncomfortable, sore throats typically resolve without medical intervention.

They are categorized into several types depending on the affected area:
- Pharyngitis: Characterized by swelling and soreness in the throat.
- Tonsillitis: Involves swelling and redness of the tonsils located at the back of the mouth.
- Laryngitis: Results in swelling and redness of the voice box, or larynx.

Symptoms can vary based on the underlying cause and may include scratchiness, burning, dryness, tenderness, or irritation in the throat.
Pain may worsen while swallowing or speaking, and the throat or tonsils may exhibit redness.
White patches or pus on the tonsils are more common in strep throat compared to viral sore throats.

Additional symptoms may include nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, coughing, fever, chills, swollen glands in the neck, hoarseness, body aches, headache, difficulty swallowing, and diminished appetite.

It’s so funny that many people now claim to have OCD having little or no understanding about it..lol. Don’t worry, let’s talk about it.

Firstly, the full meaning of OCD is Obsessive compulsive disorder. It’s a mental health condition where a person has obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours. OCD is a disorder in which people have recurring, unwanted thoughts, ideas or sensations (obsessions) and to get rid of the thoughts, they feel the need to do something repetitively (compulsions).

A diagnosis of OCD is made when there’s a presence of obsessional thoughts and/or compulsions that are time-consuming (more than one hour a day), causes significant distress, and impair work or social functioning.

Many people without OCD have distressing thoughts or repetitive behaviors but these do not typically disrupt their daily activities. For people with OCD, thoughts are persistent and intrusive, and behaviors are rigid. The repetitive behaviors, such as hand washing/cleaning, checking on things, and mental acts like (counting) or other activities, can significantly interfere with a person’s daily activities and social interactions...this is where the problem is because not carrying out the behaviours can be very distressing but good thing is treatment can help you keep it under control.

So at this point you should know already if there’s a need for you to see a therapist or general practitioner.

Soliloquizing(The act of talking to one self)
Talking you to yourself can be fun and trust me, it’s normal. According to research, the act of talking to yourself (self directed talk) is a common and normal behaviour at any age. It may help people find mislaid items and understand instructions, among other benefits.
A study examined how self-talk affects visual search tasks. The findings suggest that self-talk while looking for a particular object, such as a lost item of clothing or set of keys, or trying to find products in a grocery store, may help a person find them sooner.
Talking to self can be beneficial when:
Trying to make decisions
You need to encourage yourself through words of affirmation
You’re thinking about how you spent your day
You are trying to identify when you’ve done a wrong or right thing and knowing things to do more often and where improvement is needed.
The only time when talking to yourself becomes associated with mental illness is when you are talking to you yourself in response to voices of people that can’t be seen around you (voices of unseen person/people), and this is called Auditory Hallucination. And believe me once it’s like this, it’s no longer you soliloquizing or talking to yourself. This is the point where you need to see a doctor(Psychiatrist).
So, I’ll encourage you to give yourself that pep talk and encouragement that you need for the day because it’s needed and it’s normal.
P.S: Let the self talk be full of positive things and not negative things.
Enjoy your day.

Mental health is often underrated unlike physical health which is seen to be more important. It is an important part of overall health and well-being, and mental health issues are as much a medical problem as malaria and must be treated as such. Mental health is often ignored because it's not always easy to see unlike physical illnesses, which often have visible symptoms. Also, the stigma associated with it has made it difficult for people battling with the illness to seek for help.
Mental health includes our emotional, physiological and social wellbeing . It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps to determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices.
Mental well-being enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute productively to the community they belong to.
Individual psychological and biological factors such as emotional skills, substance use and genetics can make people more vulnerable to mental health problems. Exposure to unfavourable social, economic, geopolitical and environmental circumstances including poverty, violence, inequality and environmental deprivation also increases people’s risk of experiencing mental health conditions. These risks can manifest themselves at all stages of life.

Here are some things you can do to improve your mental health
• Value yourself
• Surround yourself with good people
• Learn how to deal with stress
• Set realistic goals
• Avoid alcohol and psychoactive substance use
• Get help when you need it

HEADACHE is a pain in your head or face that’s often described as a pressure that’s throbbing, constant, sharp or dull. Headaches can differ greatly in regard to pain type, severity, location and frequency. While most headaches aren’t dangerous, certain types can be a sign of a more serious condition.
There are over 150 types of headache but there are two main categories:

Primary headache: A primary headache is when the headache itself is the main problem. It is not a symptom of an underlying disease or condition.
There are several categories of primary headaches. Some of the most common types of primary headaches include: Migraine headache, Tension headache, cluster headache

Secondary headache: A secondary headache is caused by another condition that triggers pain-sensitive areas in the neck and head. Secondary headaches are rare, but they can also be much more serious than primary headaches. Secondary headaches can be a warning sign of a more serious underlying condition, including: brain tumors, aneurysm, meningitis, neck or brain injuries

🤔 Not every headache requires medication. A range of treatments is available. Depending on your headache type, frequency and cause, treatment options include:

Stress management.

Biofeedback.

Medications.

Dehydration occurs when your body doesn't have enough fluids. This can happen when you lose more fluids than you take in, or when you are not able to properly absorb and use the fluids you do consume and this can lead to a range of health problems.

There are many different causes of dehydration, including:
1. Not drinking enough fluids: This is the most common cause of dehydration. If you are not drinking enough fluids, your body will not have enough water to function properly.
2. Excessive sweating: If you are exercising or spending time in a hot environment, you may lose more fluids through sweat than you are taking in.
3. Diarrhea and vomiting: These conditions can cause your body to lose fluids rapidly.
4. Fever: A high fever can cause your body to lose fluids more quickly.
5. Increased urination: Some medications and medical conditions can cause you to urinate more frequently, leading to dehydration e.g,. Urinary tract infection.

To prevent dehydration, it is important to drink plenty of fluids, especially when you are exercising, spending time in a hot environment, or experiencing diarrhea or vomiting. Water is the best choice, but you can also get fluids from other sources like sports drinks, fruit juice, and broth. If you are experiencing severe dehydration, you may need to receive fluids through an IV.
If you think you may be dehydrated, there are a few signs to look for: thirst, dry mouth and throat, dark yellow urine, dizziness or lightheadedness, fatigue, and dry skin. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to increase your fluid intake and seek medical attention if the symptoms persist or worsen.

STRESS AND STRESS MANAGEMENT

Stress is a normal psychological and physical response to the demands of life. It is a physical and emotional reaction that occurs when we perceive that we are unable to cope with the demands being placed on us. It is the body's way of responding to any kind of demand or threat. When a person experiences stress, their body undergoes physical changes, including increased heart rate, rapid breathing, and heightened senses. These changes are designed to help the body deal with the stressor and to return to a state of balance, or homeostasis.
Stress can be caused by a variety of factors, including work, relationships, financial problems, and health issues. While some stress is normal and can even be beneficial in small doses, chronic stress can have negative effects on a person's physical and mental health. When we are stressed, our bodies respond by releasing hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol, which help us to respond to the challenge or demand. This can help us to perform better in short-term situations, but if stress is experienced over a long period of time, it can have negative effects on our physical and mental health.
To manage stress, it is important to identify the sources of stress in your life and to develop strategies to manage them. Some ways to manage stress include exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or meditation, and setting aside time to do activities that you enjoy. It can also be helpful to talk to friends, family, or a mental health professional about your stress.
In addition to these general stress management strategies, it can also be helpful to address specific stressors in your life. For example, if work is a major source of stress, you may need to develop strategies for managing time and workload more effectively. If your stress is related to a difficult relationship, you may need to work on communication skills or seek help from a therapist.
Overall, the key to managing stress is to identify the sources of stress in your life and to develop strategies for coping with them. By taking steps to manage your stress, you can improve your physical and mental health and enhance your overall well-being.

Rabies — the word probably brings to mind an enraged animal frothing at the mouth. This painful, life threatening, and preventable condition can result from an encounter with an infected animal.
Rabies is caused by a virus that affects the central nervous system (CNS), in particular the brain. Animals with rabies transfer the virus to other animals and humans via a scratch or saliva following a bite. However, any contact with the mucous membranes or an open wound can also transmit the virus. The transmission of this virus is considered to occur exclusively from animal to animal and animal to human. While human-to-human transmission of the virus is extremely rare.
Following a bite, the rabies virus spreads by way of the nerve cells to the brain. Once in the brain, the virus multiplies rapidly. This activity causes severe inflammation of the brain and spinal cord after which the person deteriorates rapidly and dies.
Both wild and domesticated animals can spread the rabies virus. The following animals are the main sources of rabies infection in humans:
• dogs
• bats
• ferrets
• cats
• cows
• goats
• horses
• rabbits
• beavers
• coyotes
• foxes
• monkeys
• raccoons
• skunks
• woodchucks

SYMPTOMS
It usually takes 3 weeks to 3 months for a person to develop rabies symptoms once they’ve contracted the infection, per the CDC. However, incubation periods can also range from 1 week to 1 year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The initial onset of rabies begins with flu-like symptoms, including fever, muscle weakness, and tingling. You may also feel burning at the bite site.
As the virus continues to attack the CNS, there are two different types of the disease that can develop: furious rabies and paralytic rabies.
FURIOUS RABIES
People who develop furious rabies will be hyperactive and excitable and may display erratic behavior. Other symptoms include:
• insomnia
• anxiety
• agitation
• confusion
• hallucinations
• excess salivation or foaming at the mouth
• problems swallowing
• fear of water
PARALYTIC RABIES
This form of rabies takes longer to set in. People with the infection slowly become paralyzed, will eventually slip into a coma, and die. According to the WHO, 20% of human rabies cases are paralytic.

TREATMENT
Once a person has developed rabies, it’s rare for the disease to be cured. However, after being exposed to the rabies virus, you can have a series of injections (vaccine) to prevent an infection from setting in.
Rabies immunoglobulin, which gives you an immediate dose of rabies antibodies to fight the infection, helps to prevent the virus from getting a foothold. Then, getting the rabies vaccine is the key to avoiding the disease.
Animal control will probably try to find the animal that bit you so that it can be tested for rabies. If the animal isn’t rabid, you can avoid the large round of rabies shots. However, if the animal can’t be found, the safest course of action is to take the preventive shots.
Getting a rabies vaccination as soon as possible after an animal bite is the best way to prevent the infection. The rabies vaccine is given in a series of five shots over 14 days.

Monkeypox is an emerging infectious disease caused by a virus transmitted to humans from infected animals, most commonly rodents such as rats, mice and squirrels. It can be spread to other people but person-to-person transmission alone cannot easily sustain an outbreak. The clinical presentation is similar to that seen in the past with smallpox but less severe.
Monkeypox, in most cases, is a mild condition which will resolve on its own within a few weeks and have no long-term effects. It has a mortality rate of between one and 10 per cent, with most deaths occurring in younger age groups.

Monkeypox can be spread through:
• Been bitten by an infected animal
• touching clothing, bedding or towels used by someone with the monkeypox rash
• touching monkeypox skin blisters or scabs
• the coughs or sneezes of a person with the monkeypox rash
• eating meat from an infected animal that has not been cooked thoroughly
• touching other products from infected animals (such as animal skin or cooked

SYMPTOMS
If you get infected with monkeypox, it usually takes between 5 and 21 days for the first symptoms to appear.
The first symptoms of monkeypox include:
• a high temperature
• a headache
• muscle aches
• backache
• swollen lymph nodes
• shivering (chills)
• exhaustion

A rash usually appears 1 to 5 days after the first symptoms. A painful rash and open sores can then develop, usually starting on the face. If the rash spreads to the eyes it can cause blindness.
Symptoms generally last from 14 to 21 days, with severe cases relating to age, extent of virus exposure, the patient's health and the severity of complications.
**The rash is sometimes confused with chickenpox. It starts as raised spots, which turn into small blisters filled with fluid. These blisters eventually form scabs which later fall off.

TREATMENT
Currently, no treatment is available for monkeypox.
Smallpox vaccine has been reported to reduce the risk of monkeypox among previously vaccinated persons in Africa. CDC is assessing the potential role of postexposure use of smallpox vaccine as well as therapeutic use of the antiviral drug cidofovir.

Cholera is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, a tiny microbe that can infect the intestines. The physical signs and symptoms of cholera aren't caused by the bacterium itself, but rather a toxin it produces once it's inside the body. That toxin disrupts the way cells absorb and process fluids and electrolytes, forcing them to go in just one direction: out.
