PSORIASIS
INTRODUCTION
Psoriasis is an autoimmune skin condition that causes itchiness and discomfort.
CAUSES
-An over-reactive immune system that creates inflammation in your skin causes psoriasis.
-Psoriasis occurs when skin cells are replaced more quickly than usual. It's not known exactly why this happens, but research suggests it's caused by a problem with the immune system. Your body produces new skin cells in the deepest layer of skin.
SYMPTOMS
A rash or a raised area of thick skin.
The skin on the plaque is discolored.
The plaque is scaly or flaky and sheds easily.
Itchy skin.
Cracked, dry skin.
Skin pain.
Nails that are pitted, cracked or crumbly.
Joint pain.
IS PSORIASIS CONTAGIOUS?
No, psoriasis isn’t contagious. You can’t get psoriasis by coming into contact with another person’s psoriasis skin rash.
COMPLICATIONS OF PSORIASIS
For some people diagnosed with psoriasis, the skin condition causes more than itchiness, scaling skin and skin discoloration. It can lead to swollen joints and arthritis. If you have psoriasis, you may be at higher risk of:
Diabetes.
Obesity.
High cholesterol.
Strokes.
Heart attacks.

There are several types of psoriasis, each of which varies in its signs and symptoms:
Plaque psoriasis
Nail psoriasis
Guttate psoriasis
Inverse psoriasis
Pustular psoriasis
Erythrodermic psoriasis.
