Celebratory Tribute to Prof. Eniola Elegbe on Her 80th Birthday
Today, we joyfully celebrate a monumental milestone—the 80th birthday of a true icon in the medical field, Prof. Eniola Elegbe, a distinguished retired Professor of Anaesthesia from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.
Prof. Elegbe has been a trailblazer in Anaesthesia, a mentor to many, and a beacon of excellence across Nigeria. Her illustrious career has inspired generations of medical professionals, and her legacy continues to shape the future of healthcare.
A woman of virtue-integrity, honour, and impeccable character, Prof. Elegbe exemplifies professionalism and mastery in her field. Her deep knowledge and unwavering commitment have earned her the admiration and respect of colleagues, students, and peers alike.
She is a multifaceted leader—an exceptional team player, a perfectionist in every endeavour, and a firm yet nurturing disciplinarian. Her maternal guidance has helped shape values in family life, society, and the professional space, earning her the reputation of a “no-nonsense” figure with a heart of gold.
As the former National Coordinator of the MWAN Senior Members Forum (2021–2023) during my tenure as MWAN National President,Prof Elegbe played a pivotal role in promoting mentorship, collaboration, and health education programmes aimed at improving the well-being of the elderly. Her contributions have left an enduring impact on the Medical Women's Association (MWAN) and her mission.
Even in retirement, Prof. Elegbe remains committed to education, continuing to lecture postgraduate students in Anaesthesia online. Her alignment with MWAN’s core values and mission is a testament to her enduring dedication.
