The Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter, proudly inaugurated its 18th President, Dr. Shakirat Olayinka Olanlege, during its biennial conference and investiture ceremony, which took place on the 3rd of December, 2025.

This momentous occasion brought together esteemed medical professionals, dignitaries, and guests, all gathered to witness the induction of the new president.

In her acceptance speech, Dr. Olanlege expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the immediate past president, Dr. Omowumi Femi-Akinlosotu and the medical elders present, acknowledging their invaluable contributions towards the growth and sustainability of the association. She also extended her appreciation to the distinguished guests of honour, including Dr. Olukemi Otolorin, the immediate past MWAN National President; Dr. Bode Ladipo, the former Commissioner for Health in Oyo State; and Dr. Bukola Adeshina, the Chairperson, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, amongst others, who graced the occasion with their presence.

Dr. Olanlege assured the association of her commitment to continue and improve upon the good works of the previous administration. "My team and I shall ensure that the good works of the previous administration shall be continued and improved upon," she stated. She further emphasized the importance of collective effort, saying, "We solicit the support of everyone."

The investiture ceremony was a celebration of the chapter's achievements and a recognition of the hard work of past executives. As a token of appreciation, the association awarded symbols of gratitude to the past executives, acknowledging their dedication and service.

The event was a testament to the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter's commitment to promoting the well-being of women, the young and old, ensuring continuous health awareness as well as fostering unity amongst female medical professionals across the state.

Today, we joyfully celebrate a monumental milestone—the 80th birthday of a true icon in the medical field, Prof. Eniola Elegbe, a distinguished retired Professor of Anaesthesia from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.

Prof. Elegbe has been a trailblazer in Anaesthesia, a mentor to many, and a beacon of excellence across Nigeria. Her illustrious career has inspired generations of medical professionals, and her legacy continues to shape the future of healthcare.

A woman of virtue-integrity, honour, and impeccable character, Prof. Elegbe exemplifies professionalism and mastery in her field. Her deep knowledge and unwavering commitment have earned her the admiration and respect of colleagues, students, and peers alike.

She is a multifaceted leader—an exceptional team player, a perfectionist in every endeavour, and a firm yet nurturing disciplinarian. Her maternal guidance has helped shape values in family life, society, and the professional space, earning her the reputation of a “no-nonsense” figure with a heart of gold.

As the former National Coordinator of the MWAN Senior Members Forum (2021–2023) during my tenure as MWAN National President,Prof Elegbe played a pivotal role in promoting mentorship, collaboration, and health education programmes aimed at improving the well-being of the elderly. Her contributions have left an enduring impact on the Medical Women's Association (MWAN) and her mission.

Even in retirement, Prof. Elegbe remains committed to education, continuing to lecture postgraduate students in Anaesthesia online. Her alignment with MWAN’s core values and mission is a testament to her enduring dedication.

On behalf of all MWAN members—including the Founding Mothers, BOT, Advisory Council of PNPs,The National President, and the entire MWAN family—we extend our heartfelt wishes for continued health, abundant joy, fruitful years ahead, and deep fulfilment.

Prof. Elegbe, your life is a shining example of dedication, expertise, and transformative leadership. May your legacy continue to inspire future generations of medical professionals.
