Ovulation:
Ovulation is a key part of the menstrual cycle, but its importance goes beyond just releasing an egg.
It plays a major role in fertility, pregnancy, and even overall health.
Whether you're trying to conceive, avoid pregnancy, or monitor your reproductive health, understanding ovulation matters.
Learn all you need to know in simple terms
🔑 WHAT IS OVULATION?
Ovulation is when one of your ovaries releases an egg.
This usually happens about 14 days before your next period, but it varies from person to person.
If your cycle is 28 days long, ovulation often happens around day 14.
However, cycles can range from 21 to 35 days, meaning ovulation can occur earlier or later 👏🏽👏🏽
🔑 HOW DOES OVULATION WORK?
Your body controls ovulation with hormones:
- FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone) helps eggs grow inside tiny sacs called follicles in the o***y.
- Estrogen rises as one follicle becomes dominant, preparing the body for ovulation.
- LH (Luteinizing Hormone) Surge triggers the release of the egg.
Once the egg is released, it travels into the fallopian tube, where it waits for s***m.
The egg only lives for 12–24 hours, but s***m can survive inside the reproductive tract forget up to 5 days.
This is called the fertile window.
