Mummy, Why Don’t We Eat What Others Eat?

It was a Saturday morning.
Her daughter looked at her plate, boiled yam, eggs, and fruit, then glanced at the neighbor’s child holding a sausage roll and soda.

Because, my love, the mother said gently, not everything that looks nice is good for the body.

The little girl frowned. But they eat it every day and they’re fine!

That’s the lie the world tells, Everyone is fine.
But everyone isn’t.
Behind every glowing child photo might be a bloated tummy, weak immunity, or a constant visit to the hospital.

The mother leaned closer, her tone calm but firm.
You see, baby, the body remembers everything you feed it.
Healthy food may not make you excited now,
but it makes your body strong later.
Junk food makes you happy now,
but weak later.

The girl nodded slowly.
So when I grow up, I’ll thank you, right?

The mother smiled.
Yes, my love. One day you’ll understand that true love isn’t in giving you what you want,
but what your body needs.

Real love feeds the future, not just the appetite.

Her little boy was holding a bright pack of juice, smiling, innocent, trusting.

She smiled back, but guilt pricked her heart.
Because she knew that fruit juice wasn’t really fruit, it was flavored sugar in disguise.

That’s the hidden truth: most parents think they’re giving their children good things,

Every sweet drink builds an addiction.

The question stopped her mid-sentence.
She was packing her child’s lunch, smiling as always… but her smile was tired.

Her eyes had that quiet exhaustion only mothers understand.
Late nights, skipped meals, constant giving, and no refilling.

She turned, forced a small laugh.
Because I am fine, baby.

But deep down, she knew she wasn’t.
