Food allergy advice for you and your baby

If you have a food allergy or food intolerance, or you want to know if there is anything you can do to reduce the risk of your baby developing allergies, we have some information for you in this section.

Food allergy and food intolerance

If you have a medically diagnosed food allergy, or are excluding foods due to a food intolerance, you should ensure that you are getting the required nutrients you need while you are pregnant.

It’s important to note that food intolerances and particularly food allergies in adults are much less common than people think. People may self–report that they have a food allergy or intolerance but figures for people with allergy or intolerance using scientifically recognised diagnostic tests are much lower than self-reported figures. National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines advise against the use of “alternative” test kits, available online and in some shops. NICE says there is little evidence that these work and can lead to unnecessary restrictive diets. So, you should speak to your health professional if you think you may have a food allergy or intolerance, before changing your diet.

What are the most common food allergies?

Common foods causing food allergies include milk, egg, peanuts, sesame seeds, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, wheat and soya. All of these foods have to be labelled if present or added to any food.

How likely is it that my baby will develop a food allergy?

Food allergy is relatively rare, affecting an estimated 1-2% of adults in the UK. Food allergy appears to be slightly more common in young children, with an estimated 6–8 % of children under 3 years old having a proven food allergy. Many children outgrow their allergies to milk or eggs, but a peanut allergy is often life-long.

If I have a food allergy, is my child more likely to develop one?

Babies are more likely to develop an allergy if a parent or sibling has a medically-diagnosed allergy (such as eczema, asthma, hayfever or food allergy). Your baby will also have a higher risk of developing a peanut allergy if they have another medically-diagnosed allergy (such as eczema or another food allergy).

Breast milk provides the ideal nourishment for newborns. European, American and international academic and health groups strongly recommend exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months with introduction of complementary foods no earlier than 4-6 months as the hallmark for allergy prevention. If you're not breastfeeding, ask your doctor for advice on what kind of formula to give your baby.

Can I help reduce the risk of my baby developing an allergy in pregnancy?

Restricting your diet during pregnancy has not been proven to be effective in allergy prevention. For example, there is little evidence that avoiding milk, egg or other potential allergens during pregnancy reduces the risk of eczema or asthma in infants. In addition, restricting your diet during pregnancy may negatively impact upon your and /or your baby’s nutrition.

There has been some research looking at intakes of particular nutrients during pregnancy with the reduction in the risk of allergies in the offspring. Vitamin D, omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and folate (or the synthetic form, folic acid) have received quite a lot of attention. However, the results of these studies are inconclusive and further evidence is required to clarify whether increased intake of these nutrients during pregnancy helps to reduce the risk of your baby developing an allergy. In the light of current evidence, there is no recommendation to increase consuming these nutrients to prevent allergic disease in your baby. However, these essential nutrients each have important roles in the development of your growing baby, and should therefore be included in your diet during pregnancy.

There has also been a suggestion that consuming probiotics during pregnancy may reduce the risk of your child developing a food allergy. However, the evidence to support this is of low quality and most European and international guidelines make no specific recommendations about the use of probiotics in pregnant women.

I have heard some pregnant women avoid peanuts to prevent peanut allergies in their children.

Is there any benefit or truth to this?

Current government advice states that if mothers would like to eat peanuts or foods containing peanuts during pregnancy or breastfeeding, then they can choose to do so as part of a healthy balanced diet, unless they are allergic to peanuts themselves. In fact, there is some evidence to suggest that exposure of common allergens whilst in the womb or through the breastmilk may reduce the risk of a child developing an allergy.

I have a food allergy.

How can I make sure I’m getting the right nutrients for me and my baby?

If you are avoiding certain foods due to your own medically diagnosed food allergies and are concerned you may not be getting all the nutrients you need during pregnancy then you should speak to your midwife or doctor. Depending on your allergies, you may be referred to a dietitian to help support you in your choices of alternative foods which will provide you with the nutrients you and your baby need.

Continuation of cancer prevention

14. Eat clean foods
The President's Cancer Panel recommends buying meat free of antibiotics and added hormones, which are suspected of causing endocrine problems, including cancer. The report also advises that you purchase produce grown without pesticides and wash conventionally grown food thoroughly to remove residues. (The foods with the most pesticides: celery, peaches, strawberries, apples, and blueberries. See the full list of dirtiest fruits and vegetables here.) "At least 40 known carcinogens are found in pesticides and we should absolutely try to reduce exposure," Sellers says.

15. Do a folic acid check
The B vitamin, essential for women who may become or are pregnant to prevent birth defects, is a double-edged sword when it comes to cancer risk. Consuming too much of the synthetic form (not folate, found in leafy green veggies, orange juice, and other foods) has been linked to increased colon cancer risk, as well as higher lung cancer and prostate cancer risks. Rethink your multivitamin, especially if you eat a lot of cereal and fortified foods. A CDC study discovered that half of supplement users who took supplements with more than 400 mcg of folic acid exceeded 1,000 mcg per day of folic acid. Most supplements pack 400 mcg. Individual supplements (of vitamin D and calcium, for instance) may be a smarter choice for most women who aren't thinking of having kids.

16. Up your calcium intake
Milk's main claim to fame may also help protect you from colon cancer. Those who took calcium faithfully for 4 years had a 36% reduction in the development of new precancerous colon polyps 5 years after the study had ended, revealed Dartmouth Medical School researchers. (They tracked 822 people who took either 1,200 mg of calcium every day or a placebo.) Though the study was not on milk itself, you can get the same amount of calcium in three 8-ounce glasses of fat-free milk, along with an 8-ounce serving of yogurt or a 2- to 3-ounce serving of low-fat cheese daily.

17. Commit to whole grains
You know whole wheat is better for you than white bread. Here's more proof why you should switch once and for all: If you eat a lot of things with a high glycemic load—a measurement of how quickly food raises your blood sugar—you may run a higher risk of colorectal cancer than women who eat low-glycemic-load foods, found a Harvard Medical School study involving 38,000 women. The problem eats are mostly white: white bread, pasta, potatoes, and sugary pastries. The low-glycemic-load stuff comes with fiber.

18. Pay attention to pain
If you're experiencing a bloated belly, pelvic pain, and an urgent need to urinate, see your doctor. These symptoms may signal ovarian cancer, particularly if they're severe and frequent. Women and physicians often ignore these symptoms, and that's the very reason that this disease can be deadly. When caught early, before cancer has spread outside the o***y, the relative 5-year survival rate for ovarian cancer is a jaw-dropping 90 to 95%.

19. Avoid unnecessary scans
CT scans are a great diagnostic tool, but they deliver much more radiation than x-rays and may be overused, says Barton Kamen, MD, PhD, chief medical officer for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In fact, researchers suggest that one-third of CT scans could be unnecessary. High doses of radiation can trigger leukemia, so make sure scans are not repeated if you see multiple doctors, and ask if another test, such as an ultrasound or MRI, could substitute.

20. Drop 10 pounds
Being overweight or obese accounts for 20% of all cancer deaths among women and 14% among men, notes the American Cancer Society. (You're overweight if your body mass index is between 25 and 29.9; you're obese if it's 30 or more.) Plus, losing excess pounds reduces the body's production of female hormones, which may protect against breast cancer, endometrial cancer, and ovarian cancer. Even if you're not technically overweight, gaining just 10 pounds after the age of 30 increases your risk of developing breast, pancreatic, and cervical, among other cancers.

More to your health than you think...

Good news...

10/06/2016

First, the good news: You probably won't get cancer.

That is, if you have a healthy lifestyle. "As many as 70% of known causes of cancers are avoidable and related to lifestyle," says Thomas A. Sellers, PhD, associate director for cancer prevention and control at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. Diet, exercise, and avoidance of to***co products are, of course, your first line of defense, but recent research has uncovered many small, surprising ways you can weave even more disease prevention into your everyday life.

Try these novel strategies and your risk of cancer could dwindle even more.

1. Filter your tap water
You'll reduce your exposure to known or suspected carcinogens and hormone-disrupting chemicals. A report from the President's Cancer Panel on how to reduce exposure to carcinogens suggests that home-filtered tap water is a safer bet than bottled water, whose quality often is not higher—and in some cases is worse—than that of municipal sources, according to a study by the Environmental Working Group. (Consumer Reports' top picks for faucet-mounted filters: Culligan, Pur Vertical, and the Brita OPFF-100.) Store water in stainless steel or glass to avoid chemical contaminants such as BPA that can leach from plastic bottles.

2. Stop topping your tank
So say the EPA and the President's Cancer Panel: Pumping one last sq**rt of gas into your car after the nozzle clicks off can spill fuel and foil the pump's v***r recovery system, designed to keep toxic chemicals such as cancer-causing benzene out of the air, where they can come in contact with your skin or get into your lungs.

3. Marinate meat first
Processed, charred, and well-done meats can contain cancer-causing heterocyclic amines, which form when meat is seared at high temperatures, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which get into food when it's charcoal broiled. "The recommendation to cut down on grilled meat has really solid scientific evidence behind it," says Cheryl Lyn Walker, PhD, a professor of carcinogenesis at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. If you do grill, add rosemary and thyme to your favorite marinade and soak meat for at least an hour before cooking. The antioxidant-rich spices can cut HCAs by as much as 87%, according to research at Kansas State University.

4. Caffeinate every day
Java lovers who drank 5 or more cups of caffeinated coffee a day had a 40% decreased risk of brain cancer, compared with people who drank the least, in a 2010 British study. A 5-cup-a-day coffee habit reduces risks of oral and throat cancer almost as much. Researchers credit the caffeine: Decaf had no comparable effect. But coffee was a more potent protector against these cancers than tea, which the British researchers said also offered protection against brain cancer.

5. Water down your risk
Drinking plenty of water and other liquids may reduce the risk of bladder cancer by diluting the concentration of cancer-causing agents in urine and helping to flush them through the bladder faster. Drink at least 8 cups of liquid a day, suggests the American Cancer Society.

6. Load up on green greens
Next time you're choosing salad fixings, reach for the darkest varieties. The chlorophyll that gives them their color is loaded with magnesium, which some large studies have found lowers the risk of colon cancer in women. "Magnesium affects signaling in cells, and without the right amount, cells may do things like divide and replicate when they shouldn't," says Walker. Just 1/2 cup of cooked spinach provides 75 mg of magnesium, 20% of the daily value.

7. Snack on Brazil nuts
They're a stellar source of selenium, an antioxidant that lowers the risk of bladder cancer in women, according to research from Dartmouth Medical School. Other studies have found that people with high blood levels of selenium have lower rates of dying of lung cancer and colorectal cancer. Researchers think selenium not only protects cells from free radical damage but also may enhance immune function and suppress formation of blood vessels that nourish tumors.

8. Burn off your risk
Moderate exercise such as brisk walking 2 hours a week cuts risk of breast cancer 18%. Regular workouts may lower your risks by helping you burn fat, which otherwise produces its own estrogen, a known contributor to breast cancer.

9. Skip the dry cleaner
A solvent known as perc (short for perchloroethylene) that's used in traditional dry cleaning may cause liver and kidney cancers and leukemia, according to an EPA finding backed in early 2010 by the National Academies of Science. The main dangers are to workers who handle chemicals or treated clothes using older machines, although experts have not concluded that consumers are also at increased cancer risk. Less toxic alternatives: Hand-wash clothes with mild soap and air-dry them, spot cleaning if necessary with white vinegar.

10. Ask about breast density
Women whose mammograms have revealed breast density readings of 75% or more have a breast cancer risk 4 to 5 times higher than that of women with low density scores, according to recent research. One theory is that denser breasts result from higher levels of estrogen—making exercise particularly important (see #8). "Shrinking your body fat also changes growth factors, signaling proteins such as adipokines and hormones like insulin in ways that tend to turn off cancer-promoting processes in cells," Walker says.

How to Have a Healthy Va**na
We all know tips and tricks for getting healthy hair and skin, but what about having a healthy va**na? Most people with va**nas are taught early on to cleanse daily with strong soap or use "feminine hygiene" sprays, but this can actually do more harm than good. Knowing the right way to stay clean, choosing foods that will boost your health, and even exercising your va**na are all ways you can keep your va**na in tip top shape. Read on to learn more about how to have a healthy va**na

Keeping Your Va**na Clean

Wash with hot water only. It may seem counterintuitive, but washing your va**na with soap, whether it's bar soap or liquid, isn't the best way to keep clean. The va**na actually stays quite clean on its own without the help of outside cleansers.[1] Like other parts of the body, the va**na has a pH level that needs to be maintained within a certain range - 3.5 and 4.5, to be specific - in order to prevent the growth of unhealthy bacteria and facilitate the growth of good bacteria. Using harsh cleansers can upset the balance, leading to infection, irritation, and even bad smells.
People often refer to the entire area "down there" as the va**na, but remember that the va**na is actually the tube-like muscle located inside your body. The v***a, the skin outside the va**na, may be cleansed with no-frills bar soap, as long as you don't find that it irritates your skin.

If you do end up washing your va**na with soap, make sure to thoroughly rinse it with warm water so that no traces of soap are left behind. Soap left inside the va**na can cause irritation.

Don't use douches or feminine sprays. Douching with chemicals that are supposed to make your va**na smell like a field of flowers actually ends up having quite the opposite effect.[2] They wash out all the healthy bacteria that helps your va**na stay clean and infection-free. The chemicals left behind by douches can cause irritation and even burning, and the same goes for feminine sprays. If you keep your va**na healthy using other methods, there will be no need to try to make it smell different.
Scented creams marketed as a way to change the smell of your va**na can cause the same problems, so these should also be avoided. The same goes for scented pads and tampons and scented wipes.
If you feel like you absolutely have to use a scent on your va**na, go for something completely natural and chemical free. You can make your own body spray by mixing a few drops of an essential oil like rose, lavender or lemongrass with water in a spray bottle. Use the body spray after showering, and make sure you're completely dry before getting dressed.

Have good hygiene during your period. Many women experience an increased rate of va**nal infections when they're menstruating, since having blood in the va**na changes its pH and throws things out of balance. To stay healthy during your period, practice the following habits:
Change your tampon frequently. Tampons absorb menstrual blood, and if you leave them in too long, you're keeping the blood in your va**na where it can change your pH. Make sure you change your tampon every few hours to keep this from happening.
Don't use pads or panty liners for longer than necessary. Wearing pads and panty liners all month long or after your period is over can lead to skin irritation.
Consider getting a menstrual cup. These rubber cups are inserted in the va**na to catch the blood, then rinsed out with hot water every few hours. Menstrual cups are a chemical-free choice for handling your period, and they can be really helpful if you tend to get irritated by tampons and pads.

Wipe from front to back. It's important to wipe from front to back, rather than the reverse, to keep f***l matter from entering your va**na and causing an infection. Use plain, unscented toilet paper to wipe. Avoid using wet wipes or any other product that contains perfumes and chemicals.

Wear cotton underwear. Cotton underwear dries quickly and allows air to flow freely through the fabric. This prevents the development of damp conditions that promote the growth of yeast and unhealthy bacteria that might lead to an infection. Underwear made from synthetic fabrics, silk, lace, or other materials doesn't breathe as well.

If you like wearing underwear made from fabrics other than cotton, make sure the section of the underwear that will be touching your va**na has a cotton liner.

If you tend to get a lot of va**nal infections, try picking underwear made from organic, undyed cotton.
Wear loose-fitting clothing. Stretch pants, skinny jeans, and tights trap moisture against the skin and prevent airflow, often leading to yeast infections. Try wearing looser, lighter fabrics that breathe well. Go for skirts and dresses more often, and choose thigh-high tights instead of the kind that pull up around your waist. Pick out shorts that are on the looser side, too.

Change out of wet clothes right away. Wearing a wet bathing suit or wet workout clothes for a few hours leaves you prone to getting a yeast infection. Make sure you change into clean, dry underwear as soon as possible after swimming or working out. You might even want to keep an extra pair on hand for unexpected situations when you might find yourself in need of a fresh pair.
If you decide to shave the area around your va**na, be very careful not to cut yourself with the razor. Use shaving cream (making sure not to let any get inside your va**na) and take your time shaving around the folds so you don't accidentally get hurt.
Waxing is another option that many women choose. If you go this route, make sure you do some research and choose a reputable waxing salon that uses clean products and wax. Waxing salons with unsanitary practices can cause the spread of bacterial infections.

Wash after s*x. When you have s*x with a partner, you're opening yourself up to bacteria and other microscopic substances that can end up irritating your va**na and causing an infection. The solution? Wash your va**na with hot water after s*x. This will greatly minimize the chance that your encounter will have an unpleasant after effect.
Asking your partner to wash before s*x is also a good idea, especially if you aren't using condoms.
Washing other body parts before s*x can be helpful, too! If you're especially prone to getting infections, try taking a shower with your partner before having s*x to minimize the risk that you'll end up with unhealthy bacteria in your body.
Use dental dams and gloves as an extra form of protection if you receive oral s*x or are being fingered.

P*e after s*x. At the very least, p*e after s*x, even if you intend on washing, too. When you have s*x, unwanted bacteria can travel up the urethra, which is connected to your bladder. P*eing after s*x can help flush the bacteria out of the va**nal area, promoting general health and helping you avoid those pesky UTIs.

Try using condoms. The pH of semen is basic, whereas the pH of the va**na is acidic. When semen is left in the va**na after s*x, it upsets the balance in the va**na, leaving it prone to bacteria growth. Using condoms or another barrier method eliminates this problem. If you don't want to use condoms, wash the semen away right after s*x so it doesn't have time to change the pH of your va**na.

Healthy Va**na Step

Eat plenty of yogurt. Yogurt has the same kind of "good" bacteria that your va**na needs to stay healthy.[5] You can replenish your body's bacteria by making yogurt part of your daily diet. Eating yogurt is a great way to both prevent and treat yeast infections.
Other foods besides yogurt also help your body in this way. Kimchi, kombucha, and other fermented foods can be substituted for yogurt if you aren't a big fan.
Yogurt pills are also available if you'd prefer not to ingest yogurt on a daily basis.

23/05/2016

Tonight I would love to highlight issues generated from hormonal imbalance in women.

Over the years the level at which our bodies absorbs nutrients is diminishing due to the activities, we consciously or unconsciously involve ourselves in. Activities such as poor diet routine, pharmaceutical drugs, birth control pills, sunlight, environmental pollution Smoking, alcoholism, overcooking etc.

Infertility
This is a major problem in families. Infertility is a big umbrella where other problems hide under.

Problems such as high prolactin (production of milk from the mammalian gland of a non-lactating woman), Fibroid, Blocked fallopian tube, Fungi infection, Irregular menstrual circle and Ovarian cyst.

I would want to elaborate more on high prolactin and fibroid

Studies have shown that we have holes all over and at any time women are more susceptible to germs/ infection, High prolactin is production of milk from the mammalian gland of a non-lactating woman and this is an hormonal imbalance of the pituitary gland which is the master of glands in the body coordinating the activities of all other glands.

For any woman to have high prolactin it simply means that woman has something wrong with her pituitary gland even chemical creams are linked to this problem, If this kind of woman visits the hospital the doctor will surely recommend bromocryptin or palodel.

Pls in your spare time check for the evil side effects of this pharmaceutical drugs.
Bromocryptin will halt the pituitary gland from producing growth hormone and also stop breast milk. In other words if the woman in the future is to give birth, she won't be able to breast feed her baby, the baby might even be deformed in the process of formation in the womb. Growth problems

A woman with high prolactin can never give birth.

Then as for fibroid, this as always a non cancerous growth in the womb or it environment. We all have cancerous cell sleeping in our body system but the kind of lifestyle we live triggers their growth.

Bad cells are formed from free radical which are highly reactive electrons, once the find their way into the human system they begin to detach healthy cells in order to become stable which of course looks like free radicals, this in turn lead to tumours and cancer and they can lay rest anywhere in the body which is suitable for the multiplication.
Only powerful antioxidants and been proven to fight free radicals.

In this present generation never be amazed to find very young unmarried women(21-25) also having high prolactin and fibroid. If you find some women complain of infertility, first ask if they have high prolactin and of course test from the lab showing the current status of their reproductive system.

Just contact me for more information or how to treat this deadly hormonal imbalance... 08104200543/07035432850... WhatsApp welcome! Pls share to safe a life.
