I Am A Survivor

According to Billboard, in the 90’s, TLC was one of the most popular and best-selling girl group in America. Their hits “Waterfalls" and "No Scrubs" reverberated throughout forgotten corners of the universe, including Baricho, where I was born and bred. Man, remember Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes!!

While TLC were on the upward climb, selling out venues and stadia, in Houston, Texas another girl group was warming up. This group was called Girl’s Tyme and would be seen performing in talent shows and events of that nature in Houston.

You probably have never heard of that group, but it had some heavy hitters: Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and LaTavia Roberson.

You all know Beyoncé-beautiful, with large eyes and a stunning smile. She has previously been described by Vogue as “wholesome and s*xy at the same time.”

You also know Kelly Rowland, and if you don’t, ask Silas Nyanchwani.

Beyoncé’s mother Tina was not impressed with the name “Girl’s Tyme” and like any mom would do, she sought God’s guidance on a suitable name for the girl band. It wasn’t strange when Tina pulled the word “destiny” out of the bible for her daughter’s girl group. Her husband Mathew-Beyoncé ‘s father, added the word “child.”

And that is how Girl’s Tyme became Destiny’s Child, comprising members Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett.

In the years that followed, Destiny’s Child became known for line-up change more than for hit songs. In 1997, their lead single “No No No” from their self-titled debut album in 1997 became a success, but the group was still struggling…

In 2000, a popular reality TV show called “Survivor" was born in America. The show is a competition reality series in which a group of contestants are stranded on a deserted island and compete in challenges to win a grand prize. The contestants must work together and strategize to outwit and outlast each other, all while surviving the elements and living on limited resources.

Pundits and skeptics started comparing Destiny's Child to the show “Survivor” because of the group’s internal competition and struggles. It was a question of “who will be the last to survive.”

After 3 members left the group, according to the LA Times, some people even joked that Luckett, Roberson, and Franklin had been “voted off the island,” just like an episode of Survivor.

Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland were not happy with the comparisons and neg*tive chatter. Michelle Williams had then joined the group.

Who was going to survive?

Instead of feeding the sceptics, Destiny’s Child wrote the song "Survivor" in response to rumors of the group's break-up and industry pressure to produce a hit single. The lyrics of the song highlight the group's strength and determination in the face of adversity. The song's message of resilience and perseverance resonated with audiences, just as the TV show "Survivor" did.

Nelson Mandela said that criticism prevents a person from becoming a demi-god; for Destiny’s Child, criticism fueled their songwriting; they also drew inspiration from the hit competition series to create the group’s most popular track to date.

The song Survivor went on to win the Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 2002 Grammy Awards.

Today, Survivor is still Destiny’s Child’s second highest-debuting single and currently holds a spot on Billboard’s list of 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time.

MY TAKE ON THE PROVOCATIVE , CLANDESTINE, IRRESPONSIBLE AND UNFOUNDED ALLEGATIONS LEVELLED AGAINST PATANI AS REGARDS THE SNATCHED/MISSING ELECTORAL MATERIALS AT THE BOTCHED IJAW NATIONAL CONGRESS (INC) ELECTIONS AT IZON WARI IN YENAGOA, BAYELSA STATE ON THE 29TH OF JUNE 2019.

AS AN IJAW MAN, I join law abiding citizens of our nation to CONDEMN IN Clear and unequivocal terms the alleged disruption of the INC CONVENTION midway to its conclusion. In same vain, I equally hope that, the Bayelsa Government through the law enforcement agencies carry out a thorough and unbiased investig*tion into the unhealthy happening which remains a huge dent on the image and integrity of the Ijaw nation.

Suffice it to say, and of course with all sense of responsibility that, if there is anytime we need a vibrant INC and IYC is now or never, given the challenges the Nigerian state is facing in her democratic development.

We are all aware that the ethno-politics in Nigeria has taken a new and rejigged vibrancy in defence of their territory based on the RUGA, HERDSMEN ATTACK AND KIDNAPPINGS IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE COUNTRY, and highly echoed Islamisation fears renting the air.

Be that as it may, the press statement accredited to Markson Iwariso, the spokesperson to Bayelsa State Government alleging that the hoodlums suspected to have put off the generator set before making away with the electoral materials on that fateful day to unknown destinations and later claiming to have found same in Patani , is an unfounded falsehood cooked and served from the deepest part of hell to smear the image of the good and law abiding people of Patani Local Government Area of Delta state.

This purported statement is not only surreptitious but represents all intent of "giving a dog a bad name to hang it", power is transient, therefore, wielding power at the DETRIMENT of the "weak or vulnerable " creates a circle of hate and revenge in the long run which to mind neg*tes the principle and purpose of the aims and objectives of the founding fathers of the INC especially when the said convention was to elect officials to field positions in our INC Which aught to be far and above individuals and their interests.

The said press statement has left us with more to be desired, whether some Ijaws are "blue blooded", thus, being more Ijaw than others, if in a mere INC Presidential contest, we could be this divided and allege some of criminal acts, speaks volumes.... the aspirant from Patani like all others is equally an Ijaw man, isn't it... ?.

Permit me at this juncture to place on record the contributions of imminent and illustrious sons of Patani Local Government Area to the Development of the socio-ethnic development of the Ijaw nation in the past, which of course is innate in us, thus the zeal and passion to serve remains unabated from time immemorial. Firstly, our patriarch, PA OWEIKEZI of PATANI town was staunch and unrepentant activist in the hay days of the formation of the group that later menmofphorsed , THE PORBENIS ARE FROM PATANI, our foremost and highly revered INC President, Chief Joshua Fomudoh, Late CHRIS GHOMORAI et al, all CONTRIBUTED THEIR QUOTAS TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF IJAW NATION, WHEREAS, THEY ALL FROM PATANI LGA TOO...

Legendary Singer, 2Baba, this week celebrated 20 years in the music industry, and he has revealed what he learnt over the years.

In a chat with Showtime, revealed that he learnt not to judge himself by what others her doing.

2Baba said;

A teenage boy impregnates his teenage girlfriend. The girl drops out of school, the boy continues his education. This is the world we live in.

A guy catches his girlfriend with another guy, he fights his girlfriend. A lady catches her guy with another lady, she fights the other lady. This is the world we live in.

The older a man becomes, the higher the number of ladies available for him. The older a lady becomes the fewer the number of guys available for her. This is the world we live in.

A 76 year old man can still marry a 26 year old lady. A 36 year old lady is tagged too old to get married. This is the world we live in.

It's end of my first day of school... Miss Ugo asks us to hug each other.

I don't like hugs because it is always always painful. I don't know why we have to hug even in school.

I didn't want to disobey Miss Ugo and become a bad pupil.

So I turned away from the class and began to remove my clothes.
After removing my clothes and also my pants, I looked around for a clean space to lie down.
I found a space, laid down and spread my legs wide open. I wondered why everyone is taking time to get ready for 'hug'. Someone has to take the lead I guess.

My teacher didn't look very pleased, judging from her expression... Some of the kids covered their faces.

"poor kids" I thought, still lying on the floor.

"they don't even know what a hug is" I continued in my head of course.

My teacher is approaching me, she looks angry now. I could tell because her cheeks are red. My mum's face is usually that red whenever she is Washing my body and I tell her my "Bum Bum" Is paining me. So my mum will get angry and her cheeks will turn red, sometimes she will cry and not say anything.

I don't want my teacher to cry, so I got up. I'm beginning to get worried because I am still the only person who has no clothes on.

I still can't understand why my whole class does not know what a hug is or how to do it.

Well this once, maybe this once I have to believe my daddy. "This is a special kind of hugs Lucy" he would say amidst sweats. "It's only for special girls" he would continue.

Maybe I really am special.

"Here! Put on your clothes and follow me" Miss Ugo shrieked angrily.

In our proprietress's office. I told "Big mummy" (That's what they told us to call her) and Miss Ugo how my daddy hugs me every other night.

They were both in tears as I tell them that, the only part of hugs that I hated the most is when my daddy tries out his fingers one after the other until one fits inside my bu**um.

It's already school over and my daddy will be mad if I don't wait in my class like he had instructed.

Big mummy gives Miss Ugo a look, she picks up her desk phone and dials a number. Miss Ugo takes me outside and puts her arm around me... It felt so good.

"That is a hug" Miss Ugo whispers and breaks down in tears again.

"How can this be a hug? It wasn't painful " I thought.

My daddy is around and Miss Ugo asks him to see Big mummy. Shortly after, 2 police officers comes in and enters big mummy's office.

I can hear myself talk from big mummy's cell phone. I sounded so funny, I let out a light chuckle.
The police comes out of big mummy's office with my father. His hands are tied behind his back. He looks angry. I know I am in trouble.

We didn't go home. We went to the hospital in big mummy's car. Miss Ugo was beside me the whole time until the Doctor asks me to follow him. He removes my pant, collects torchlight from the nurse and looks into my bum bum. I closed my eyes expecting pains but he doesn't put his fingers inside. He puts off the light and talks to the nurse who jots down what he said. He helps me wear my pant and takes me back to meet big mummy and miss Ugo.

Back in Big Mummy's car, miss Ugo calls out our address for Big mummy.

We get to my house and my mum comes out. She doesn't say anything as usual. She just brings out a big placard that reads "I AM DEAF and ALSO DUMB"

Big mummy and miss Ugo started crying again. I have had enough so I joined them to cry and my mum followed suit.

*I just read this story on how a daughter was raised and decided to share.*

My Dad always *sounds* it in my ears "Simi, you must be *tough.* Being *girlish* and being *ladylike* is not an excuse for *weakness".* This he still says to I and my sisters till this very day.

All the children were *raised* to do the *"masculine"* as well as the *"feminine"* tasks.

My sisters and I started *winding* a 15KVA generator as soon as we got one. I *learnt* how to wash a *car* (internal and external) before the *age of 16*.
I started *learning driving* immediately after *secondary* school. My Dad told me that before he allows me drive out *independently,* that I must learn to change *car tyres.*
I remember I was forming *ajebutter* and my Dad said to me "If you are *driving* on a lonely *highway* and you need to change your *tyre*, what would you do? You will have to get down and change it.... that's the *common sense* thing to do. It's a *survival skill* for drivers. Car tyres are not *changed* with a p***s, so you don't need to worry about not having one".

*My brother?*
He started *washing* the dishes as soon as he could reach the sink and *handle* the dishes. He started cooking *simple meals* before the *age of 10.* He started *washing* his socks and under wears before the *age of 7.*
He started *handling his laundry* before the *age of 11*, when he had to go to *boarding* school.
In my house, the rule was (still is) that *anyone who eats* must be able to get *involved in the kitchen*, when required.

My father tells me I can be *president,* not *first lady.* There is nothing wrong with being a first lady, but there's also nothing wrong with being the *husband* of the president. Thus, if you tell your *son* that he can be president, you should also tell your *daughter* that she can be president.

The *hidden but significant psychology* behind this is that telling your daughter that she can be president pushes her to be *great,* while telling her that she can be a *first lady* pushes her to aspire to marry a *great man,* and probably *reduces* the needed inspiration to aspire to exercise her maximum potentials.
We need to stop *teaching our girls* to believe that the best they can be is to *exist under the success of a man,* their husbands.

It is *disfavor* to *humanity* to raise your son with the *impression* that he is better than other females just because he owns a p***s. Raise your daughters to understand that they are not *inferior to males.*

Teach your sons to be as *domesticated* as your daughters, and push your daughters to *attain financing independence* as much as you push your sons.
This way, we will raise a *less entitled*:and *more responsible* generation, *equipped* with all vital survival skills, and with less *handicaps.*

*Charity* begins at *home*, not in the *offices* or *work places.*

We wish all our distinguished fans a happy new year of FLOURISHING: a year we will do big things as a Brand.

Last year was a turning point for our brand as we took time off to further develop our brand and content, hence there was less activity for us. One of the target we set for ourselves was to have a minimum of 500likes on facebook before the end of 2016... and am glad that you made it happen.

Last year our 2013 Queen Her Majesty Former Miss blessing Sinebe tied the knot and we are proud of that. We shall be flaunting with photos of that great event.

This year, we shall be unveiling our activities to us as the year unfolds. We thank our fans who had stood behind us from the on set and those who just joined. We promised to be more informative and motivational this year.
Our pageant this year shall be bigger and better hence Ladies start planning for it as the prize will blow your mind.

Janet Jackson welcomes her first child, a boy named Eissa

Music legend Janet Jackson has welcomed her first child at age 50. She reportedly gave birth today Jan. 3rd to a bouncing baby boy named Eissa. Her reps confirmed to People exclusively.
“Janet Jackson and husband Wissam Al Mana are thrilled to welcome their new son Eissa Al Mana into the world,” her rep says in a statement. “Janet had a stress-free healthy delivery and is resting comfortably."

The alarming rate of teenage pregnancy in the Rural areas

The incessant increase is rate of teenage pregnancy in the Rural area is so alarming and obnoxious, this societal problem is as dangerous and damumaging as other social vices e.g Cultism, Drug, thuggery etc

This societal abnormality as begin to seems normal in the Rural areas, this problem is not peculiar to the Rural area, but the recent rise in the rate of teenage pregnancy in that part is unprecedented

My recent visit to my village,in the Yuletide mood expose me to another dimension of this vices, which got me pi**ed off.

Hardly can you see a girl in her early 20's and teens without having a baby or two out of wedlock, is so disheartening hearing stories of 14,15 years old kids so exposed s*xually, the moral bankruptcy of our youths both male and females is so injurious to our societal standing and status, Urgent measures are needed to be taken to avert the pending danger of this abnormality ...

Pointing out the problems without proposing solutions is fruitless, So in lieu of the aforementioned problem, these are the my proposed solutions

1. Including s*x education in our secondary school syllabus

2. Organising seminars to orientate the youth about the danger and control of s*x, the message should be
Targeted to both s*xes, not just at the girls.

3. Parent have a lot of task in this context, by teaching and counselling their wards about the danger of tenage pregnancy and other moral lessons

4. The community as a whole as their part to play by reporting any suspicious dealings with underage girls and boys and also placing caution on them

5. The adult male are the major perpetrators of this evil act, by devilishly taking advantage of this tenage girls..knowing fully the pending danger it can cause to the girls career ambition and future, forgetting the girl can be their sisters, daughters, etc. adult males are advised to find conscience if they g*t none, to find end to this societal problem. And Lastly

5. Criminalising the act of teenage pregnancy: I think this will go a long way in curbing this crises, by punishing the offender with a threat of imprisonment ,I think this will enable other youth take caution of this act knowing fully the punishment awaiting offenders...I think females have the potential of becoming whatever they desires, so we shouldn't allow the selfish act of some people ,with their desire of few minutes pleasure to ruin the future of our female children by taking advantage of their gullibility.

I think we all have our roles to play in curbing this crises..
