Apparently, being a centenarian has its own special set of problems in today's world :) .

The first time this happened when we were checking in, I was sure mom had made a mistake in her profile for the plane ticket.

I went into the computer and saw that she had correctly entered the year of her birth was 1923.

I was on a mission to figure out what happened and correct it. Little did I know that in fact, it’s a problem with the computer systems that are set up for the airlines and for people who are travel agents.

And when I spoke to supervisors both at the airlines and at the travel agency which my mother is connected to they said there is nothing they can do. Because that is how the IT/computer forms are set up.

Isn’t this crazy? Do they not expect people who live into the three digits to fly and travel anymore?

We now spend an additional hour every time we’re checking in to sort this out. And it also now requires someone to es**rt us to TSA to inform them so they will let mom through.

It is very funny but frustrating when you’re trying to catch a plane .

According to a post on his Instagram page, "These two Fairy penguins poised upon a rock overlooking the Melbourne skyline were standing there for hours, flipper in flipper, watching the sparkling lights of the skyline and ocean. A volunteer approached me and told me that the white one was an elderly lady who had lost her partner and apparently so did the younger male to the left. Since then they meet regularly comforting each other and standing together for hours watching the dancing lights of the nearby city."

Whether or not the penguins were widowed, we celebrate the strength of love, the comfort in companionship and the loyalty of friendship.

Be thankful for the people in your life and never miss the chance to show them what they mean to you.

Funerals are a potpourri of emotions, we find joy in the knowledge that we loved and were loved by our beloved departed, but there is also sadness in the reality that we will not have that physical representation of their being anymore.

There is gratitude for the opportunity to have shared life with them, and sometimes there is confusion as to how we will live without them.

All in all, the lesson remains to strive to live life to the fullest, to laugh and to love.
