Someone asked, 'Can I keep an actual career with bipolar?'
You can have an actual job regardless of living with bipolar disorder.
I have lived with bipolar for 20+ years and I have identified and put my skills, gift and talent to productive use that earn me an income. I have a unique gift of listening and typing fast what's being spoken in a meeting. This earned me jobs as a live curator on Twitter/Facebook and Instagram for events.
I think when I talk, thanks to bipolar, but this have been appreciated by my colleagues because they get great ideas π‘ when I'm in a 'talk-think' mood.π
I am usually gifted at multitasking. I can listen to a podcast, write out points and still scan through an email efficiently. This ability which is also associated with my being bipolar helps me a lot at work.
I also have low moments. Depressed seasons where I can't think of anything. Low energy and lack of productive work.
To pass by those moments, I ask for help from my colleagues whom I may have confided in about my bipolar diagnosis and they help me with some of my task while I focus on my medication and reduce my exposure to mental stress.
A word for anyone living with a mental health diagnose:
π»You can and you do deserve an actual job.
π»You are so talented.
π»Just ensure you are surrounded with good people who are willing and avail themselves to support you in your low moments.
