Concerning my last post on melanin someone DM me and ask if there is any disadvantage of us having melanin in our skin
But what is melanin?
Well…Melanin is the dark complexion in us as AFRICANS.
Believe me when they told us in school that anything that has Advantages also have disadvantages that was very correct
The Advantage of melanin is that it helps to block a higher amount of sunlight from penetrating into our body which helps to prevent us from sun burn, which could eventually lead to skin cancer. Called MELANOMA
And also
The sun gives us a greater amount of vitamin D …..SO….. we need the sun to some extent.
And for our body to generate this vitamin D from the sun our body needs to be exposed to a certain amount of sunlight.
in order for this sunlight to pe*****te the melanin in our body and deliver this vitamin D to us which is what we experience in Africa here
…….And the disadvantage part of melanin is this. …… if you travel out of the country to one of these cold countries that has low rate of sunlight,,,,,,,, that becomes a problem ,,,,,,because the little amount of sunlight that they have would not be enough to pe*****te the melanin in you in order to deliver this vitamin D into your body
In this kind of situation you might becomes vitamin D deficient which can results or leads to reduction in strength of your bone…… or…… weaknesses of the bone if you are an adult and poor bone formation in children. … STOP…
On the other hand,
White people, they don’t have melanin so for them to gain this vitamin D becomes quite very easy , with that little amount of sunlight they are exposed to in their country,,,,,,,,,, their body can easily fix in the vitamin D in them from the sun since they don’t have melanin to block the amount of sunlight that would pe*****te into their body ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but you as a dark skin person living in their country automatically that low rate of sunlight you are exposed to becomes a problem to you.
When this occurs
You would be requires to take in vitamin D supplement or consumes food substance that are high in vitamin D
