Hello great people...

The Health Trends with Dr Tuyi is back. Apologies for the break..

The best way to start is to look at the outbreaks of Monkey Pox worldwide and give basic understanding of why and what can be done.

There is also a viral story on Biolabs in Africa which needs some clarification!

First, the monkey pox, take a listen!

At the heart of the reccurent strike by NARD is the lack of trust and refusal of government to honor an Agreement.

My concern is this: why sign agreement if it is not going to be honored?

The key solution are necessary to resolve the perennial strike

1. Reform the compensation mechanisms for the health work force away from only financial renumeration. Insert some performance-based compensation mechanism and length of service non-financial inducements

2. Rethink the leadership of the health system pushing for some more autonomy, team-building capacity and competitive appointment based on managerial exposures.

3. Rejig the whole health financing. If you want to change the health system, follow the money.

I hope someone there is listening..

If one can rationalize the resumption of exit classes in our schools, what then is behind the opening of worship houses and gradual closure of some isolation centers in Lagos?
Fact is that Coronavirus can be spread by aerosols which singing, talking and interactions in defined enclosures like worship houses can foster. How do we deal with this? We've also seen rise in cases of Covid 19 after reopening of churches in New York and schools in Sweden. Are we prepared for such surprise? I had expected that the isolation centers in Lagos will still be opened for a tleast two weeks while we watch the number after reopening the worship centers and schools.
Matter of fact, I cant find the science behind this decision, but let me also repeat that emotion, parochialism, and political feelings have become the drivers of decisions. With the rise of traffickers in hyperboles, distorting and fabricating sciences, we now see open embrace of contradictions on daily basis. My counsel is this, NEVER LOWER YOUR GUARD, EMBRACE PREVENTION

Analyzing the way out of the plight of Health Workers

About the infectious diseases bill, I have briefly expressed a lot about what is wrong with the bill. Indeed, the bill should have been titled *EPIDEMIC PREPAREDNESS BILL* to look at Epidemic Prevention, Epidemic Response Architecture and Future fund for epidemic preparedness amongst other things.

The starting point, is to aggregate the opinions of all stakeholders in the epidemic response spectrum. Such bill must be relevant, contextual, agile and adaptive to a multicultural, multireligious and democratic setting like Nigeria. No matter how good the intention, the copy and paste bill from Singapore or elsewhere, is dead on arrival.

we lost a lot of milestone on information management as far as the Covid 19 pandemic is concerned.
I won't discuss the rightness or otherwise of the comments by Bishop Oyedepo and Rev Chris Oyakhilome, but let me state clearly
1. Information dissemination has been so defective creating consumption of un-vetted messages, misinformation and disinformation which are now being leveraged for political, economics, and spiritual gains. This is a fertile ground for conspiracy theorists

2. We couldn't sincerely devolve the prevention strategies to the necessary stakeholders. People just embraced it to enable them go freely during the partial easing of the lockdown. So many people do not trust the government or its response to the pandemic.

Now we see 'respected' religious leaders expressing their frustration and creating illusion of confidence which is going viral. The big question is this, to what extent were these leaders involved in our fight against the virus? Did we give them roles in information management and distribution of Covid 19 prevention materials? Some of them run big health facilities, have we leverage on their experienced giving the followership and influences they exert nationwide?

To the religious leaders:
The way of science is so far from religion and spirituality. You cannot understand science unless you are scientists involved in research. The process is rigorous and thorough, criticism and disagreement are the norms as it help deepening knowledge and ask critical questions. The mathematical model of spread of disease is not in any scripture. The size of a virus and impact of face mask is not documented in any Psalms. The wisdom is in knowing our limits and agreeing that we can be fatally wrong. We owe it a duty to our followers and country not to use our influence to misinform
