BACK TO SCHOOL HEALTH TALK.

It is not uncommon to see children fall ill immediately they return to school.

⚠️Here are some tips to keep your children healthy and protect them from the cold during school days:

1. Boost their immunity

Healthy nutrition: Make sure their meals are rich in vitamins and minerals (such as vitamin C found in oranges and lemons).

Drink fluids: Offer them warm water or natural drinks such as herbal tea and honey.

Adequate sleep: Children need 8-10 hours of sleep daily to strengthen their immune system.

2. Preventing the cold

Wear appropriate clothing: Make sure to wear layers of warm cotton clothing, with a windproof jacket.

Head and neck cover: To protect the ears and neck from cold air.

Socks and gloves: To warm the hands and feet.

3. Maintain personal hygiene

Wash hands regularly: Teach them to wash their hands with soap and water after playing or before eating.

Use hand sanitizer: When needed, especially at school.

Do not share personal items: such as water bottles, towels, or school supplies.

4. Keeping the house warm

Moderate temperature: Make sure the house is warm, and the rooms are well ventilated to avoid the accumulation of germs.

Avoid exposure to drafts: such as sitting in front of open windows or fans.

5. Dealing with a cold as soon as it appears

Warm drinks: Offer them warm drinks such as soup or herbs as soon as they notice any cold symptoms.

Adequate rest: If any signs of fatigue or exhaustion appear, they should rest well.

Consult a doctor: If symptoms persist or the temperature rises.

6. School awareness

Explain to them the importance of covering their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

Teach them to stay away from infected colleagues to avoid infection.

7. Preparing for the school day

Prepare a bag containing tissues and hand sanitizer.

Put an extra light cover in their bag if they need it.

8. Physical activity

Encourage them to do physical activity to enhance blood circulation and raise their immunity level.

Paying attention to these simple tips helps protect children from catching colds and ensures their concentration while studying.

VITAMIN C AND YOU.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can help protect your cells from damage. It also plays a role in the production of white blood cells, which are important for fighting infection.

Studies have shown that vitamin C can help shorten the duration of the common cold andreduce the severity of symptoms. It may also be helpful in preventing other infections, such aspneumonia and urinary tract infections.

The recommended daily allowance (RDA) of vitamin C for adults is 75 milligrams (mg) for menand 90 mg for women. However, some experts believe that higher doses may be beneficial forcertain groups of people, such as smokers and people with certain chronic diseases.

If you are considering taking a vitamin C supplement, it is important to talk to your doctor/pharmacist first especially if you have history of peptic ulcer disease or kidney stones.
They can help you determine the right dosage for you and make sure it is safe for you to take.

Here are some tips for getting enough vitamin C from your diet:
● Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially citrus fruits, strawberries, kiwi, and bellpeppers.
● Drink orange juice or other fortified juices.
● Take a vitamin C supplement.

By getting enough vitamin C, you can help boost your immune system, have a beautiful and glowing skin, and stay healthy.

Please note that vitamin C is not a cure for any infection. It is important to see a doctor/pharmacist ifyou are experiencing any symptoms of illness.

Pregnancy 🤰 & Medications: A Crucial Conversation

For expectant mothers, every decision matters. This includes carefully considering the medications you take.

Why is this important?
* Medications can cross the placenta: Some medications can reach your baby, potentially affecting their development.
* Potential risks: Certain medications may increase the risk of birth defects, premature birth, or other complications.

What to do:
* Talk to your doctor/pharmacist: Discuss all medications (prescription and over-the-counter) with your healthcare provider before taking them.
* Be honest and open: Share your complete medical history with your doctor/pharmacist.
* Don't self-medicate: Avoid taking any medication without consulting your doctor/pharmacist first. Never take any drug because a friend or colleague took it while pregnant...every person and pregnancy is unique.

Remember: Your Pharmacist is your best resource for personalized guidance on medication use during pregnancy.

Getting it Right according to World Health Organization (WHO) entails HIV prevention and treatment.

HIV is a serious but manageable condition. Here's what you need to know:
Prevention is Key:
*Abstinence: By all means stay away from sexual activities especially from partners that you are not sure of their status. Also avoid having multiple partners as it increases your chances of contracting HIV.
* Condoms: Use them consistently and correctly during all sexual encounters.
* PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis): If you're at high risk, talk to your doctor about PrEP medication.
* Get Tested Regularly: Knowing your status is crucial for prevention and treatment.
*Avoid sharing needles and clippersand if you must, ensure that they are properly sterilized
Treatment is Effective:
* Antiretroviral Therapy (ART): When taken as prescribed, ART can suppress the virus, allowing people with HIV to live long and healthy lives.
* Undetectable = Untransmittable: People with undetectable viral loads cannot sexually transmit HIV to others.
* Break the Stigma: HIV is a manageable condition. Let's end the stigma and support those living with HIV.

Know your status. Get tested. Get treated. Live a healthy life.

PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR LOVED ONES FROM MALARIA! 🦟

For a few weeks at the hospital, the Rotary International club has been giving out insecticide treated nets to consolidate the fight against malaria and I joined the que to collect mine😃😃

Malaria is a serious and potentially deadly disease transmitted by mosquitoes. One of the most effective ways to prevent malaria is by sleeping under an insecticide-treated net (ITN).

ITNs are so important because they create a physical barrier against mosquitoes and the insecticide on the net kills mosquitoes that come into contact with it.

TIPS FOR USING ITNs EFFECTIVELY:

* Tuck the net in under your mattress.
* Make sure there are no holes or tears in the net.
* Wash the net according to the manufacturer's instructions.
* Retreat the net as needed to maintain its effectiveness.

Let's work together to fight malaria!
