HOW SUGARY DRINKS DAMAGE YOUR TEETH

Many people enjoy sugary drinks like soft drinks, sweetened juices, energy drinks, and flavored beverages. While they may taste good and give quick energy, they can quietly damage your teeth over time.

When you drink sugary beverages, the sugar does not just disappear. Bacteria that naturally live in your mouth feed on this sugar. As they break it down, they produce acids. These acids attack the outer protective layer of the teeth known as enamel.

DO NOT BRUSH IMMEDIATELY AFTER EATING
Many people rush to brush their teeth immediately after eating, especially after taking sugary or acidic foods like soft drinks, citrus fruits, or sweets. However, brushing right away can actually harm your teeth.

After eating acidic foods, the enamel (the hard outer layer of your teeth) becomes temporarily soft. Brushing immediately can wear away this weakened enamel and increase the risk of tooth sensitivity and cavities.

CHILDREN VS ADULT TOOTHPASTE: WHAT PARENTS SHOULD KNOW.

Many parents buy toothpaste for their children without checking the fluoride content. But the amount of fluoride in children’s toothpaste and adult toothpaste is usually different, and it matters for your child’s dental health.

CHILDREN'S TOOTHPASTE
Most children’s toothpaste contains about 500 – 1000 ppm (parts per million) of fluoride. This lower amount is designed for young children who may still swallow toothpaste while brushing.

ADULT TOOTHPASTE

Regular adult toothpaste usually contains about 1000 – 1500 ppm of fluoride. This higher amount provides stronger protection against cavities for people who can properly spit out toothpaste.

WHY THIS MATTERS
Young children often swallow toothpaste. Taking in too much fluoride over time may lead to a condition called DENTAL FLUOROSIS which can cause white or brown marks on developing teeth.

WHAT PARENTS SHOULD DO
Under 3 years: Use a rice-grain sized amount of toothpaste.
3–6 years: Use a pea-sized amount.
Always supervise children while brushing.
HEALTH TIP: The right toothpaste plus the right amount = healthy teeth for your child.

Parents, quick question:
At what age did your child start brushing with toothpaste? Let’s hear from you in the comments.

WHAT COLD FOODS AND DRINKS DO TO YOUR TEETH.

Many people enjoy cold foods and drinks like ice cream, chilled water, or cold soft drinks especially in hot weather. While these treats can be refreshing, they can sometimes cause discomfort in the teeth.

If you’ve ever felt a sudden sharp pain when drinking something cold, you may be experiencing tooth sensitivity.

Cold foods and drinks can affect the teeth because of the sensitive inner part of the tooth called dentin. Normally, dentin is protected by the outer enamel and the gums. However, when the enamel becomes worn down or the gums recede, the dentin becomes exposed.

Cold temperatures can then easily reach the tiny nerve endings inside the tooth, causing a quick, sharp pain.
Frequent exposure to very cold substances may worsen tooth sensitivity in people who already have weakened enamel, small cracks in their teeth, tooth decay, or gum problems.

OMEGA H3 VS OMEGA 3: ARE THEY THE SAME?

Many people think Omega H3 and Omega-3 mean the same thing, but they are actually different.

Omega-3
This is a type of essential fatty acid that your body needs to stay healthy. Common forms include EPA, DHA, and ALA. Omega-3 supports heart health, brain function, eye health, and helps reduce inflammation.

You can get it from foods like fish (salmon, sardines), walnuts, flaxseed, or from fish-oil supplements.

Omega B3

This is a multinutrient supplement that contains a combination of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and sometimes cod liver oil or omega-3.

FROM THE PHARMACIST'S DESK: It is usually marketed to help with general body strength, energy, and overall wellness. It is not a type of fatty acid.
It is not every supplement with “Omega” in its name means the same thing.
Always read the ingredient label or ask your pharmacist before choosing a supplement.

BE CAREFUL WITH CHILDREN'S MEDICINES

Children’s medicines are not always the same dose for every child. The correct dose often depends on the child’s age or weight.

Using the wrong dose can be dangerous. Always use a proper measuring spoon or syringe and follow the instructions given by a healthcare professional.

Not Every Illness Needs Antibiotics
Antibiotics only work against bacterial infections. They do not treat viral illnesses such as the common cold or flu. Using antibiotics when they are not needed can lead to antibiotic resistance, making infections harder to treat in the future.

Wash Your Hands Regularly.
Proper hand washing with soap and clean water helps prevent infections like diarrhea, flu, and other contagious diseases.
