NIGERIAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICE TARABA STATE COMMAND PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO MEDICAL DIRECTOR, FMC JALINGO
A team from the Nigerian Correctional Service, Taraba State Command, led by the 18th Controller of the Command, Jerry K. Moral, paid a courtesy visit to the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu.
During the visit, Controller Jerry K. Moral stated that the purpose was to reach out to the Centre and express concern for the inmates under their care. He explained that accessing medical care for the inmates has been a significant challenge, as there is currently no provision for covering their medical expenses. He therefore appealed to the Medical Director for support and assistance.
Also speaking, Chief Superintendent of Corrections, CSC Felix Julius, appreciated Dr. Aisha for the assistance she has rendered to the Correctional Service in the past. He further appealed to her to consider deploying a few nurses to the correctional facility to conduct weekly medical checkups for the inmates. He also requested continued support and care for inmates referred to the hospital.
Responding, the Medical Director, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu, expressed her appreciation for the visit and assured the team that she would link them with the Public Health Department of the hospital to explore a collaborative approach. She emphasized that as a tertiary healthcare institution, FMC Jalingo is committed to delivering effective and comprehensive healthcare services.
ACReSAL PROJECT TEAM ALSO PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO FMC JALINGO
Members of the Taraba Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project also paid a courtesy visit to the Medical Director of FMC Jalingo, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu.
Speaking during the visit, the Project Coordinator, Dr. Clement Yakubu Giwa, who was represented by the project’s Natural Resource Officer, Mr. Mbwayi Haliru, noted that ACReSAL has been active in Taraba State since 2021 and has positively impacted lives globally. He explained that the project seeks collaboration with the hospital to help mitigate the effects of climate change on the community.
He highlighted the four key components of the ACReSAL project, which include:
1. Dryland Management
2. Community Climate Resilience
3. Institutional Strengthening
4. Contingency Emergency Management
In her response, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu expressed delight at the visit and stated that FMC Jalingo could align with several of the project’s components. She appealed for ACReSAL’s intervention in addressing the poor drainage system along FMC Road, which poses a challenge to motorists, especially those conveying patients.
She also emphasized the need for more trees within the hospital premises an area where ACReSAL could provide support. Dr. Aisha assured the team of her readiness to work with them and confirmed that the Public Health Department of the hospital would collaborate closely with the ACReSAL project team.
