*OVARIAN TORSION*
Ovarian torsion (OT) or adnexal torsion is an abnormal condition where an o***y twists on its attachment to other structures, such that blood flow is decreased.
That is, A condition occurring when the o***y or fallopian tubes twist on the tissues that support them.
*Risk factors include*: ovarian cysts, ovarian enlargement, ovarian tumors, pregnancy, fertility treatment, and prior tubal ligation.
*Having a cyst on your o***y is the biggest risk factor for ovarian torsion.*
Cysts that become large can cause the o***y to move and twist around ligaments around the ovaries.
This can cause painful twisting of the o***y *(ovarian torsion)* , blocking blood flow to the o***y.
*Symptoms include*
π severe pain in the pelvic area, as well as nausea, fever, vomiting and abnormal bleeding.
*Ovarian Torsion* can also cause an infection (peritonitis) in the abdominal cavity, ovarian necrosis (tissue death), loss of the o***y, and in some cases, infertility.
The majority of ovarian torsion cases affect women of reproductive age, but girls can have the condition as well.
Although ovarian torsion is not common, it is a medical emergency.
