On Saturday, October 19th, 2024, the community of Jebbu Miango, Plateau State, welcomed the Med-Aware Team for a Medical Outreach.

This outreach, dedicated to raising health awareness and providing vital medical services, saw a remarkable turnout as residents of all ages participated in a day of free healthcare services.

The event kicked off with a community awareness campaign. Dedicated team members actively engaged with residents, informing them of the free medical services available and encouraging participation.

The outreach offered comprehensive screenings for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Malaria, which are crucial for identifying and managing these conditions early. Also, residents had the opportunity to check their blood pressure, helping to raise awareness of hypertension and its risks.

Consultations were provided by skilled healthcare professionals who offered personalized care and addressed various health concerns. Medications were administered to both young and old, ensuring that those in need received appropriate treatment for their conditions.

This impactful outreach was a success and brought hope and healthcare to Jebbu Miango.

Successful ReproEd Outreach on Reproductive Health and Hygiene

The ReproEd Reproductive Health and Hygiene outreach, organized by MedAware, took place on Friday, September 27th, at GSS Giring, and was a great success. The event focused on critical aspects of reproductive health, particularly menstrual hygiene, reproductive health talks, and the distribution of sanitary pads and toiletries.

The outreach aimed to educate participants on essential hygiene practices and provide valuable information to empower young girls in managing their health effectively. Attendees actively engaged in sessions on menstrual hygiene, which emphasized the importance of proper care and sanitation, as well as reproductive health talks that focused on vital information for adolescent girls.

A significant highlight of the event was the distribution of sanitary pads and toiletries to support the hygiene needs of the girls in attendance. This gesture was well-received and greatly appreciated by the students who expressed their gratitude for the awareness and support provided by MedAware.

MedAware extends special thanks to all the sponsors and donors who contributed towards making this event impactful. The efforts to improve the well-being and health of young girls in the community are a continuous journey, and the success of this event serves as an encouraging step in the right direction.

WORLD SICKLE CELL DAY 🌎 🩸

Sickle cell disease is a hereditary blood disorder that affects millions of people worldwide, particularly those of African, Middle Eastern, and Indian descent. It is caused by a genetic mutation that leads to the production of abnormal hemoglobin, known as Hemoglobin S.

This abnormal hemoglobin causes red blood cells to become Rigid and sickle-shaped, leading to Blockages in blood vessels, Reduced oxygen delivery to tissues, and a Range of health complications.

Individuals with sickle cell disease often experience episodes of intense pain, known as sickle cell crises, due to blocked blood flow and tissue damage.

They are also at increased risk of infections, organ damage, stroke, and other serious complications. Despite advances in treatment, many individuals with sickle cell disease face challenges in accessing quality healthcare, including specialized treatment options and comprehensive care.

On this day, June 19th, we advocate for this often disease by promoting early detection through Newborn screening, Genetic counseling, and improved access to care, we can enhance outcomes and quality of life for individuals living with sickle cell disease.

Together, let us stand in solidarity with those affected and work towards a future where everyone has equal access to the care they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives

SRHIN Africa UNIJOS Hub Leads Malaria Awareness and Screening Campaign In Partnership With MED-Aware

In a concerted effort to combat malaria and raise awareness within local communities, the MED-AWARE team, in collaboration with SRHIN Africa UNIJOS Hub, embarked on a transformative initiative on World Malaria Day. Spearheaded by the SRHIN Africa UNIJOS Hub, the campaign focused on delivering crucial malaria education and screening services to the Anguwan Rimi community.

Under the umbrella of SRHIN Africa UNIJOS Hub, dedicated volunteers from the MED-AWARE team passionately engaged with community members, emphasizing the importance of preventive measures and early detection in the fight against malaria. Through interactive sessions, informative materials, and one-on-one consultations, the team sought to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools to protect themselves and their families from the devastating impact of malaria.

The initiative encompassed comprehensive malaria screenings, enabling timely diagnosis and intervention for at-risk individuals. By leveraging the resources and expertise of SRHIN Africa UNIJOS Hub, the campaign ensured that community members received quality healthcare services and support, bridging gaps in access and awareness.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of SRHIN Africa UNIJOS Hub and its partners to promote health equity and sustainable development. By fostering community engagement and leveraging innovative approaches, such initiatives contribute significantly to the global fight against malaria, ultimately striving towards a malaria-free future for all.
