After childbirth more than 15 per cent of mothers develop a serious depressive illness called postpartum depression. This leaves both the mother and her newborn baby in untold amounts of distress and disability. This condition is preventable by regularly screening for depression in the period around childbirth. Also women with more risk factors such as single mothers; first pregnancy; previous history of depression or family history of depression; chronic ongoing life difficulties; low social support base, should be identified during antenatal period and given more attention and watched closely for the development of depressive symptoms after delivery. For women that have developed Depression after delivery prompt diagnosis and immediate commencement of treatment is pertinent to protect both the mother and her baby.

One of commonest developmental disorders that affects children and adolescents and even continues into adulthood is ADHD. If not identified and treated, ADHD causes a lot of distress to the child affected and results in serious disabilities including difficulty learning and getting along with friends and peers. Thankfully ADHD can be controlled with medications and behavioral treatments.
