FEMININE WASH: THE VA**NA IS SELF WASHING, USE ONLY CLEAN WATER!
It is no news that African women, in their quest to feel and smell fresh and perhaps prevent or control va**nal infections use feminine products, ranging from cleansers, antiseptic solutions to wipes, douches, insertions, wash and so on. Do these product really help in maintaining feminine hygiene or are they a key to a Pandora's box of ge***al diseases?
Certain practices such as the use of alum, cloves, garlic, and so on to tackle va**nal itching, va**nal odour, looseness and so on are gaining grounds in our community and some women have sworn these elixirs as their holy grail for va**nal youthfulness. Are these claims true or a mirage?
In recent years, one mantra has become pervasive among medical and health professionals on va**nal health — namely, that “the va**na is a self-cleansing oven.” - This idea refers to the fact that the va**na naturally produces discharge that eliminates dead cells and bacteria, so there is no need to clean it using soaps, washes, or douches. If this principle applies to the va**na, is there then, any need to go an extra mile to clean the inside of the va**na?
Studies and experiences have shown that using these feminine products/concoctions upset the bacterial balance and PH of the va**na. A healthy va**na's PH ranges between 3.8 to 4.5. Any slight increase in this PH level can make your va**na a board room for all sorts of infections that if not treated properly can result to irreversible damage.
Bacteria called lactobacilli help keep the va**na's pH balance at its normal low level (less than pH 4.5, greater or equal to 3.8), which also prevents the growth of other unhealthy organisms. If the pH of the va**na increases (it gets less acidic), the quality or amount of lactobacilli fall and other unhealthy bacteria can multiply. This can result in infections such as bacterial vaginosis or thrush, which can cause symptoms including itching, irritation and abnormal discharge. Note that unhealthy habbits such as douching, using soaps to clean the va**na, the use of feminine wash, the use of hydrogen peroxide to clean the va**na increases the PH level of the va**na.
Today, our drug stores are laced with a myriad of feminine products, certified to be healthy, promising a wide variety of "Safetiness" for our women. It gets even more interesting because we now have "Organic" feminine products. Ipso facto, one may think that because va**na wash is made from organic ingredient it becomes healthy. While that may sound sane, the presence of substance harmful to the va**na cannot be ruled out. Case in point the use of clove water to clean the va**na. Harmful bacteria from the clove itself, the water used in soaking it and the carrier for the solution can all pose serious health concerns for women.
Many women indulge in these practices to tackle "Va**nal odour", va**nal looseness, infections and so on and that has always been the driving force fuelling the market for these products, but it is worthy to note that it is normal for the va**na to have a unique, mild and musky smell. The va**na also secrets a healthy discharge( self cleansing mechanism) and changes in this discharge could be normal too (hormonal, pregnancy, menopause...) Thus, it is advised that you use only water to clean your Va**na, and if you are worried that you may have an infection, Kindly utilize our free consultation platform to get Professional help.
