The high-level meeting, held at the KSCHMA Conference Room, was organized in collaboration with Corona Management Systems (CMS), who approached KSCHMA to explore areas of collaboration. The session focused on introducing CMS’s Community Health Information Management and Integration System (CHIMIS)—a digital innovation designed to enhance data collection, integration, and analysis for more efficient and effective healthcare delivery at the community level.

In a welcome address delivered on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, by Dr. Musbahu Maimashi, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to embracing data-driven reforms and meaningful partnerships:

Key highlights of the engagement included a detailed walkthrough of CMS’s theory of change, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), and a live demonstration of the CHIMIS platform by the CMS technical team. KSCHMA Embarks on Knowledge-Sharing Visit to Nasarawa to Strengthen Informal Sector Enrolment

In a strategic move to deepen health contributory coverage among informal sector workers in Kano State, the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has embarked on a two-day study tour to the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Agency (NASHIA), Lafia. The visit, which commenced on July 23, 2025, is aimed at fostering knowledge exchange and learning best practices in informal sector enrolment.

Led by Dr. Muktar Gora, the KSCHMA team, seeks to understand NASHIA’s successful strategies that have enabled the enrolment of over 16,000 informal sector participants into its scheme, including artisans, traders, farmers, and small business owners. With Kano’s large informal economy, this engagement is expected to provide valuable insights to guide similar efforts back home.

On arrival, the team was warmly received by NASHIA Executive Secretary, Dr. Yahaya Bawa Ubam, who lauded the initiative and emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in strengthening health systems. He noted that such visits are critical for cross-learning and improving the delivery of affordable healthcare services across Nigeria.

Discussions during the visit will focus on:

Community-based mobilisation strategies;

Strategic partnerships with trade groups, religious institutions, and community leaders;

Effective communication and sensitization campaigns tailored to informal sector populations.

This initiative aligns with KSCHMA’s commitment to improving healthcare access and advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC), in line with the objectives of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

The visit underscores the growing trend of peer-to-peer learning among state health agencies and reflects a shared national vision to ensure all Nigerians—regardless of socioeconomic status—benefit from equitable, affordable, and quality healthcare.

22nd July 2025

The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has commenced the reaccreditation of 484 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State. This strategic initiative is aligned with the ongoing enrolment into the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) and aims to enhance the quality of healthcare service delivery at the grassroots level.

The reaccreditation exercise is a key step toward ensuring that all PHCs operating under the state’s contributory health scheme and the BHCPF platform meet national standards for infrastructure, staffing, drug availability, and operational capacity. The process focuses on strengthening service readiness, accountability, and the ability of facilities to provide round-the-clock healthcare, especially in rural and underserved communities.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar noted that the exercise underscores the Agency’s commitment to ensuring that only fully accredited and compliant facilities deliver care under the health contributory framework. She stated, “This exercise is critical for ensuring that the poorest and most vulnerable in Kano can access high-quality healthcare services through accredited and accountable health facilities.”

The ongoing BHCPF enrolment campaign is being implemented concurrently across all LGAs, with the reaccredited PHCs serving as designated service delivery points for beneficiaries. The Agency is also taking proactive steps to strengthen transparency and efficiency within the health system through regular data audits, facility monitoring, and community engagement.

KSCHMA calls on community leaders, Ward Development Committees, and healthcare providers to fully support the reaccreditation teams and to continue mobilizing eligible residents for enrolment into the BHCPF. The Agency remains committed to delivering transparent, accessible, and people-centred healthcare services across Kano State.
