PRESS STATEMENT
KSCHMA, NHIA, SPHCMB Sustain Momentum on Day Seven of Statewide PHC Reaccreditation Exercise
The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (SPHCMB), has sustained strong implementation momentum on Day Seven of the ongoing statewide Reaccreditation and Data Validation exercise across Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in Kano State.
Field teams remain actively deployed across multiple Local Government Areas, conducting systematic assessments to ensure compliance with established standards and to strengthen healthcare service delivery under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
The exercise continues to evaluate critical service components, including infrastructure, availability of skilled health personnel, essential medicines and equipment, quality of care, and data integrity. In addition, real-time mentorship is being provided to PHC In-Charges to improve patient management, documentation practices, and data reporting systems.
Emerging findings indicate gradual improvements in facility-level compliance and operational efficiency. However, notable gaps persist, particularly in human resource capacity, including shortages of doctors and skilled birth attendants, which continue to affect service delivery in some facilities.
Access to healthcare remains a challenge in certain communities, as distance to facilities limits utilization by enrollees. Similarly, referral systems are constrained by the long distances between primary and secondary healthcare facilities, affecting timely access to advanced care.
The ongoing data validation process is strengthening the credibility of health information, ensuring that planning and interventions are guided by accurate and reliable data.
The Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, noted that the progress recorded reflects the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and a shared commitment to improving healthcare outcomes across the state.
As the exercise approaches its final phase, findings from the field are expected to inform targeted interventions aimed at addressing identified gaps, strengthening referral systems, and improving equitable access to quality healthcare services.
KSCHMA, NHIA, and SPHCMB reaffirm their commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and efficient healthcare system for all residents of Kano State.
