WORLD HEALTH DAY 2026 COMMEMORATION IN KATSINA STATE
Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency (SPHCA), with the support of the World Health Organization and other partners, today commemorated World Health Day 2026 at the Agency headquarters on 7th April 2026.
The event brought together health professionals, journalists, social media handlers, partners, and other key stakeholders to raise awareness on this year’s theme: “Together for Health: Stand with Science.” The commemoration highlighted the importance of evidence-based interventions and collective action in addressing public health challenges.
Delivering his press brief, the Executive Secretary of SPHCA, Dr. Shamsuddeen Yahaya, expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda (PhD) and the Honourable Commissioner for Health for their continued leadership and unwavering support to the health sector in the state. He further emphasized the critical role of science in improving health outcomes in Katsina State, particularly through immunization, maternal and child health services, and disease outbreak response.
He noted that despite these gains, the state is currently facing outbreaks of meningitis, diphtheria, and Lassa fever, which pose significant risks to the population.
The Executive Secretary further highlighted key actions taken by the Agency, including intensified disease surveillance, strengthened case management, expanded vaccination efforts, and enhanced community engagement to control and prevent the spread of these diseases.
He called on residents to adopt preventive measures such as seeking early medical care, ensuring full immunization of children, maintaining proper hygiene, avoiding overcrowded spaces, and promptly reporting suspected cases to health facilities.
Reaffirming the Agency’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage, he urged all stakeholders—partners, health workers, community leaders, the media, and the general public—to support science-driven initiatives and work collectively towards a healthier Katsina State.
A key highlight of the event was the handover of medical consumables by WHO to the Katsina SPHCA and MCHC Kofar Guga, aimed at strengthening service delivery and improving patient care.
In continuation of the activities marking the commemoration, a community vaccination and medical outreach is scheduled to take place tomorrow at a selected ward in Katsina LGA, to further extend essential health services to the grassroots.
The event featured advocacy messages, stakeholder engagement, and awareness activities, alongside action pictures capturing key moments from the commemoration.
Together, through science and collaboration, we can build a healthier and more resilient Katsina State.
