STILL ON BED WETTING (ENURESIS)

WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSE OF BED WETTING?
1. Stress
2. Illness
3. Anxiety
4. Congenital abnormality e.g Abnormality of the bladder neck or the urethra.

Night bed wetting (Nocturnal) is common among children whose parents has bed wetting 77% if both parents were affected,44% if one parent is affected and 15% if nonof the parent was affected.

WHAT TO DO

1.Observe the color of the urine is it dark, bloody,cloudy.
2. Check if the child is having constipation,rectal pressure on bladder then stimulate to empty the bladder,By giving vegetables, fruit like Orange make sure they eats it with the pulps,pawpaw and hydrate well
3. Check if there is pain during urination.
For 1 and 2 you need to run some laboratory investigation after seeing a Dr.

In the absent of 1 and 2
✓Fluid restrictions at night
✓Bladder training.
✓Avoid giving the child food that contains caffeine,milk and citrus.

Support the child psychologically since stress is one of the cause.

Emotional support.

3.BED WETTING (ENURESIS)
It is said to be repeated involuntary voiding by a child old enough that bladder control is expected usually 5-6 years of age.It can occur either at night which is called Nocturnal or during the day which is Diurnal or it can be both night and day.

50% of enuresis is nocturnal and it occurs more in boys than girls, while Diurnal occur more in girls

Enuresis can be primary the child never had a dry night,it is thought to be due to maturation delay and small functional bladder not stress or psychological cause.

INTERMITED:The child has occasionally night or period of dryness

SECONDARY ;The child who has been consistently dry from 6-12month begins to to bed wet.It can associated with street , infection and sleep dis order.

2. TEMPER TANTRUM.
This is an emotional outbreak usually associated with children and is characterized by stubbornness, crying, screaming, defiance, anger, and resistance to attempts at pacification or hitting, biting, kicking, holding the breath. Physical control may be lost, and even if the goal of the child is met, he/she may not be calm.

Tantrum is one of the most common problematic behaviors of children but tends to decrease in intensity and frequency as the child grows older. For toddlers, tantrums are normal; it is a test of strength and character. If he/she is helped to harness that energy positively.

Children resort to tantrums
*To relieve tension
*To gain attention

FACTORS THAT LEAD TO TANTRUMS (ANGER)
1.When wishes are not granted.
2.Inconsistent parental discipline.
3.Failure of parents to set limits.
4.When children are over-pampered.

HOW TO MANAGE THE CHILD
1.Relieve frustration with a kind and loving approach.
2.Explain to the child why such behavior is wrong.
3.Set limits.
4.Spend time with the child to correct wrong behavior.
5.Prevent the child from injuring themselves.
6.Offer options for achievable desires and reward compliance.
7.Offer diversion therapy.
8.Reward the child for every good behavior, e.g., simple clapping or thanking the child.

I AM GOING TO DISCUSS 6 NEGATIVE BEHAVIORAL DISORDERS WHICH I WILL BE TAKING ONE AT A TIME

1.THUMB SUCKING: It is the act of putting the thumb or finger in the mouth.Thumb sucking it is a common habit in children though it is thought to be due to inadequate satisfaction during breastfeeding it has been seen to occur in some babies even in utero it is some kind of response to natural rooting and sucking reflex because it has soothing effects.

Babies from the age of about 6 months may actually develop the habit of sucking their thumb when they are bored, tired,or anxious as a sign of stress

Many children stop sucking their thumb on their own sometimes during the toddler years between age of 2 and 4 years,peer pressure may help the the older ones to stop at school age if it however persist until the child permanent teeth appear then complications such as
1. Malalignment of the new teeth will occur leading to difficulty in
2. Mastication and swallowing.
3 Difficulty in speech.
4. Gastro intestinal track infections(leading to diarrhea and vomiting).
5. Facial deformity

WAY OUT
* The thumb should be engaged to avoid boredom.
* Hygiene measures should be taken into consideration to prevent infections.
*Praise the when habit is been broken.
* Thumb can be splinted or bandage.
* Contact speech therapist or dentisif the need arises.
