4. Agronomy: Studies soil management and crop production techniques to improve yields.

5. Agricultural Engineering: Applies engineering principles to design equipment and structures for farming.

6. Soil Science: Examines soil properties and management to enhance fertility and sustainability.

7. Entomology: Studies insects and their impact on crops and livestock, including pest management.

8. Plant Pathology: Focuses on plant diseases and their management to ensure healthy crops.

HOW TO START GRASSCUTTER FARMING in 2025
Requirements/Facilities to start Grasscutter Farming in Nigeria and other sub-sahara African countries.

1) Grasscutter cage/Pen: Note that Grasscutters live in colonies. a colony should contain one male and three females or one male four females in one Grass cutter cage.

The Grasscutter concrete pen/cage should be blocked at the back and opened at the front, you can as well use a wooden cage or Iron cage✅(wooden or iron cage are mostly advisable for beginners so you can easily change your rearing environment in case it's not favorable to the animals.

But if you start with a concrete cage and it happens that the environment is not good for them then you have no option than to start building another cage🤷🏻‍♂️

2) How many types of Grasscutter do we have?

There are two species of grasscutters for commercial purpose, the Long breed (Thryonomys swinderi- a**s) and the short breed (Thryonomys gregoria**s).

3) What does grass cutter eat?

The conventional feeds fed to grass-cutter include cassava tuber, guinea grass, elephant grass and sugar-cane stems, pineapple top, sweet potato, etc.

4) What is the best food of grass cutter?
Feeding grasscutter

Cassava.
Potato.
Yam.
Cassava peels and scraps.
Moringa.
Corn.
Sorghum.
Millet.
Ugu steam
Etc

5) How many months does it take a Grasscutter to give birth? And How do I know my Grasscutter is pregnant?

Staying calm at a spot mostly and frequent looks at the lower abdomen and through pregnancy test. The grasscutter delivers precocious young after 148-152days of gestation (5 months)

6) How many babies can Grasscutter give birth to?

They become sexually active and mature at 6-7 months. At this age, they can reproduce and give birth to as high as 5-9 young, most times 12 if you are lucky enough. They can be easily reared or managed, and this made their domestication as an alternative to poaching them in the wild.

Regarding to sickness: Grass cutters hardly fall sick just like goats.

Rice transplanting is sure not an easy task especially when done manually. But life too is never easy especially if you want to achieve anything worthwhile. Like Obama rightly captured during his inaugural address, it is not the path for the faint-hearted, for those that prefer leisure over work, or seek only the pleasures of riches and fame. If you must win any prize, you must be willing to go through the pain. At Greater farm we encourage our farmers to do everything possible to adopt good agricultural practices and avoid cutting corners. For us, anything worth doing must be worth doing well.

Easy and Cheap Way to Grow Potatoes in a Bag Giving a Bountiful Harvest at Home
Materials Needed
Seed Potatoes: Purchase certified seed potatoes from a garden center.
Growing Bag: Use a burlap sack, large reusable shopping bag, or a specialized potato growing bag.
Potting Soil: Use a high-quality potting mix.
Fertilizer: A balanced, slow-release fertilizer.
Watering Can: For regular watering.
Steps to Grow Potatoes in a Bag
1. Preparing the Seed Potatoes
Chitting: Place seed potatoes in a cool, light place for 1-2 weeks to sprout.
Cutting (Optional): If large, cut potatoes into pieces with at least one eye each. Let them dry for a day.
2. Preparing the Growing Bag
Choosing the Bag: Select a sturdy, well-draining bag.
Preparing the Soil: Fill the bottom of the bag with 4-6 inches of potting soil mixed with compost and fertilizer.
3. Planting the Seed Potatoes
Positioning: Place 3-5 seed potato pieces on top of the soil, eyes up.
Covering: Cover with another 4-6 inches of potting soil. Water thoroughly.
4. Caring for Your Potato Plants
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy.
Adding Soil: As plants grow, add more soil to cover stems, leaving top few inches exposed.
Fertilizing: Apply balanced fertilizer every few weeks.
5. Monitoring Growth
Sunlight: Ensure 6-8 hours of sunlight daily.
Pest Control: Monitor and use natural pest control if needed.
6. Harvesting Your Potatoes
Maturity: Harvest when plants flower and foliage yellows and dies back.
Harvesting: Tip the bag over and sift through soil to collect potatoes.
7. Storing Your Potatoes
Curing: Dry harvested potatoes for a few hours in a cool, shaded area.
Storage: Store in a cool, dark, well-ventilated place.
Growing potatoes in a bag is an easy, cheap, and efficient way to enjoy fresh, home-grown potatoes. Follow these simple steps for a bountiful harvest, even with limited space.

Maize is one of the commodity that is affordable and mostly consumed by the poor.

A few months ago, a bag used to be around 70k. (An unprecedented hike)

Maize is now between 95 to 100k.

Meaning that a mudu is about 1500 to 1600k

A poor household needs at least one mudu for a meal.

The family still needs nothing less than N1000 to prepare a soup that tastes good.

This is just for a meal.

There are people that can't afford this and begging is not part of them.

They prefer to sleep without eating than to beg.

Kindly assist them if God Almighty Has provided you with enough.

Just knock on their door and give them a surprise.

It pays to put a smile on someone's face.

2. P: Phosphorus helps transfer energy from sunlight to plants, stimulates early root and plant growth, and hasten maturity.
3. K: Potassium increases vigour and disease resistance of plants and can improve fruit quality.

Let's learn this together.

17 AGRICULTURAL LAWS TO KNOW

1. Never target high seasons; high seasons come with their own challenges. Be a farmer, not a gambler.

2. Choose at least two main crops and a crop rotation plan. Switching from one crop to another is not directly in your pocket.

3. Plan your farm and always have crops at different stages of age to ensure a constant supply.

4. No crop is profitable in itself; just master the advantages and disadvantages of a particular crop.

5. Having a lot is not a guarantee for successful farming.

6. Have a spraying and fertilizing plan and stick to it.

7. Never follow the advice of agro-veterinarians and agrochemical sales agents. Most of them are salespeople, not agronomists.

8. Try as much as possible to reduce agricultural expenses without compromising the quality of products.

9. Never hold onto a product if it is perishable. Sell it at prevailing prices.

10. Never plant a new seed on a large scale before testing it, unless you have seen it somewhere.

11. Never entrust your million-dollar idea to a farm worker; make sure you are present during critical stages of crop development until commercialization.

12. Never employ a close family member to manage your farm; most of them will let you down.

13. If you are neighboring farmers, plant the same crop.

14. Never apply agricultural information you get online without consulting your agronomist.

15. Always have a farm plan.

16. Old is always good. Most old seed varieties and chemicals will never disappoint you.

17. Passion in agriculture
