Embracing Resilience: A Journey of Determination and Impact

At the beginning of this year, my company partnered with a remarkable educational consulting firm to design a series of impactful programs for schools. One of the major highlights was an event planned for the summer in August. From as early as January, we worked diligently to lay the groundwork, ensuring every detail was perfect.

However, midway through the planning, we faced an unexpected challenge. The convenor, who was the driving force behind the event, encountered a significant setback. It was a moment that could have halted everything.

But what truly stood out was the unwavering resilience and commitment. Despite the personal challenges, she remained dedicated to ensuring the event would proceed. Together, as the project lead, I coordinated a team of dedicated volunteers to bring the two-day event to life.

In the end, the event was a resounding success. We impacted teachers, counsellors, and school leaders, leaving a lasting positive impact. It was a testament to how resilience and unwavering commitment can transform challenges into triumphs.

As we reflect on this journey, I am deeply grateful for the resilience that brought us here and the dedication that continues to drive us forward.

Here’s to the power of resilience and the beauty of collaboration. 🌟

It has been a while since I last shared on LinkedIn. Though my online presence has been quiet, much has been happening offline, including projects, learning, and personal growth. This December, I look forward to sharing those milestones with you all.

Today, I want to pause and reflect on gratitude and resilience.

Resilience is often tested in ways we do not anticipate. There have been moments when the path seemed uncertain, challenges felt heavier than usual, and yet, the decision to persist, to keep going despite the odds, has yielded results I am profoundly grateful for.

Gratitude is the companion of resilience. It reminds me that every small step, every late night, every difficult decision, and every lesson learned contributes to a bigger picture. The successes I see today are not just outcomes, they are reflections of the strength to endure and the courage to continue.

As we approach the end of the year, I encourage everyone to pause, reflect, and celebrate your journey. Your resilience matters, and the results, seen or unseen, are worth acknowledging.

Here is to gratitude for the journey and to resilience for carrying us forward 🌟

Elevating Minds 2025
šŸ“ University of Lagos | 31st May

I had the honour of speaking at ACS UNILAG’s conference on ā€œManaging Mental Health as a Student & Addressing the Stigma Around it in Academiaā€.

I shared how student associations can play a key role by:
1ļøāƒ£ Creating safe spaces for mental health support
2ļøāƒ£ Partnering with certified professionals
3ļøāƒ£ Referring students to trusted organisations like the Asido Foundation
4ļøāƒ£ Training leaders to recognise & refer struggling peers

Mental health support shouldn’t be a luxury, it should be embedded in student life. Seeking help is a strength, not a weakness.

I am grateful to the organisers, fellow speakers, and passionate students. Together, we can build safer, healthier campuses.

Beyond the Spreadsheets: A Project Lead's Post-Event Confessions
And just like that... it's a wrap! Officially hanging up my Project Lead hat for this one, and wow, what an absolute whirlwind it has been. It feels like just yesterday we were staring at a mountain of spreadsheets, endless to-do lists, and a vision that felt both exhilarating and terrifyingly ambitious. There were moments of doubt, more late nights fuelled by questionable amounts of caffeine than I can count, and definitely a few 'are we actually going to pull this off?!' panic attacks. But then, there was the magic.
Seeing every piece click into place, watching the incredible dedication of a team that became more like family, and feeling the energy build as the event came to life – those are the moments that make every ounce of stress completely and utterly worth it. To my phenomenal team: you are the true MVPs. Your passion, your resilience when curveballs were thrown (and let's be honest, there were a few!), and your unwavering commitment to making this a success... I'm just in awe. We laughed, we almost cried (or maybe that was just me from sleep deprivation), and we definitely high-fived our way through.
To everyone who attended, participated, and brought your amazing energy: THANK YOU! You are the reason we pour our hearts and souls into these things. Seeing your enjoyment, your engagement, and hearing your positive feedback is the ultimate reward. This event wasn't just about logistics and schedules; it was about creating an experience, fostering connections, and hopefully, leaving a lasting positive impact.
Right now, my brain might be running on fumes, and my social battery is definitely flashing red, but my heart is overflowing with gratitude and pride. We dreamt it, we built it, and we did it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a date with my couch and a 'do not disturb' sign that will be fiercely enforced. But already, a tiny part of me is wondering... what's next? šŸ˜‰ For now, though, it’s time to breathe and appreciate this incredible journey. Cheers to an unforgettable event! šŸ„‚

Extract from my diary - When Kindness Becomes a Burden

I have always believed in showing up for others, in holding space, in being the one people can lean on. But lately, I’ve felt the quiet ache of being taken for granted—the realisation that, for some, kindness is not a gift but an expectation.

What happens when the giver is the one who needs? When the strong one starts to crumble? The hardest part is not just the exhaustion—it’s the loneliness of realising that people may only see you for what you offer, not for who you are.

Kindness should not mean self-sacrifice. If you feel the weight of always giving without receiving, remember: you deserve reciprocity. You deserve people who pour into you just as much as you pour into them. And if you’re surrounded by those who only take, maybe it’s time to walk away.

The Power of Perspective in Conflict Resolution

In my recent experience, I’ve come to appreciate how crucial it is to understand each person’s perspective when addressing conflict. Often, we’re so focused on "fixing" the problem that we overlook the individual viewpoints that shape the issue in the first place. But when we take a step back to truly listen, we discover that each person’s perspective not only adds depth to the conflict but can also guide us toward a sustainable solution.

When tensions arise, one of the most effective ways to find common ground is to understand the outcomes each party envisions. By identifying where perspectives overlap—and acknowledging where they differ—we can begin crafting a resolution that respects each person’s needs. This approach isn’t just about settling disputes; it’s about safeguarding mental well-being. In psychology, we see how unresolved conflicts and disregarded perspectives can lead to stress, anxiety, and prolonged emotional strain.

Effective conflict resolution requires empathy, patience, and a commitment to understanding the nuances of each side. By doing so, we create not only a resolution but also a foundation of trust and mutual respect, which can prevent future conflicts from escalating.

In the end, understanding perspective isn’t just a tool for resolution—it’s a pathway to healthier, more connected relationships.

The Journey of Healing: A Process, Not a Destination

Healing isn't a straight line—it's a winding road with unexpected detours. Sometimes, progress feels invisible, especially when we expect big leaps but only manage tiny steps. As a psychologist, I often remind my clients (and myself) that healing doesn’t mean erasing the past or never feeling pain again—it’s about learning to navigate life’s waves, even when the waters get choppy.

Some days you might feel okay, even hopeful, and on others, the weight of old wounds creeps back in. And that’s normal. There will be moments when old triggers resurface, and it feels like you've taken a step back. But here’s the truth: those moments are still part of your progress. Healing is about becoming more aware, more compassionate towards yourself, and more equipped to handle life's challenges, not just erasing them.

It’s okay to ask for help. Healing is not a solo mission. Leaning on trusted people or professionals doesn’t mean you’re weak—it means you’re human. We were made for connection, and sometimes healing happens through relationships, be it in therapy, family, or community spaces.

So if today feels heavy, remember this: even in your most vulnerable moments, you’re growing. Each breath you take is a reminder that healing isn't just an outcome—it's a continuous process of becoming whole again. One small step at a time is still progress, and you deserve to celebrate every step.

Christopher Morley once said "There is only one rule for being a good talker – learn to listen"

These days everyone just wants to talk but forgets the purpose for which talking was invented.

Talking was invented for the sole purpose of communicating; either to communicate feelings or effect a change on something or a situation.

However, the larger part of communication is listening. Yes, You have to learn to listen more than you talk.

Ever wondered why you have 2ears and 1 mouth?

For talking to be more efficient, you have to listen.

So make your tongue and lips more useful by making appropriate use of the 2 ears

Wonderful week ahead
