Dear parents,
As Ramadan is gradually coming to a close, take a moment to reflect on your child's fasting experience. Have they been eager to fast, or have you had to force them? Do they understand the significance of fasting during Ramadan, or are they solely motivated by the prospect of a delicious iftar meal?
As we enter the final nights of Ramadan, consider how you can help your child develop a deeper appreciation for this blessed month.
Here are some tips to support their spiritual growth, physical well-being, and emotional development:
* Lead by example: Demonstrate your enthusiasm for Ramadan, supplicate with them; telling Allah your wish to witness LAILATUL QADR.
* Establish daily routine: Designate specific times for solah, adhkaar, Quran recitation, and other acts of worship. Encourage them with gifts when they do and help them realize the great rewards for engaging those acts of worship especially in the month of Ramadan.
* Teach Ramadan values: Explain empathy, kindness, self-discipline, piety and other significance of Ramadan.
* Gradual fasting introduction: Fasting can be really challenging, especially for children. You can start with 30 mins - 1hr no food and water and then gradually increase the duration as they're able to endure.
* Healthy sahoor and iftar: Provide energy sustaining meals and help them stay hydrated: encourage water intake between iftar and sahur.
* Encourage physical activity and relaxation: encourage them to engage in light exercises like walking and ensure sufficient rest to avoid fatigue.
* Be patient and understanding: Ramadan can be challenging; be empathetic. Also, encourage kindness and empathy; teach them consideration towards others.
* Set clear boundaries and expectations: Establish rules and consequences; set goals to achieve with them.
* Engage them in iftar preparations: they can help with setting the table or preparing simple dishes.
* Make Ramadan fun for them: Organize Quran recitation competitions, Islamic quizzes, or Ramadan-themed games.
