Sick Kids and Sleepless Nights: A Parentâs Guide
Your child wakes up burning with fever. Theyâre crying but producing no tears. Their breathing sounds different. The vomit wonât stop.
In that moment, panic sets in. Is this normal? Can I wait until morning? Should I call the doctor now?
Children get sick, itâs part of growing up. But knowing the difference between âmonitor at homeâ and âget help immediatelyâ can save your childâs life.
Common Childhood Illnesses:
Fever and flu, common colds, diarrhea and vomiting, ear infections, respiratory issues like asthma and pneumonia, most of these can be managed at home with rest, fluids, and over-the-counter medication.
But some symptoms demand urgent medical attention:
* High fever (above 39°C) that wonât go down
* Severe dehydration with no tears when crying, dry mouth, no urine for 8+ hours
* Persistent vomiting or diarrhea lasting more than 24 hours
* Difficulty breathing, fast breathing, wheezing, blue lips or face
* Seizures or loss of consciousness
Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, it probably is.
